Here is what all you people have been waiting for. I decided to pull the two tubes from one of my JMP1 preamps and record a clip to see what effect the tubes have on the overall sound.
The signal path was...
My Suhr Custom-LyricHG cable-JMP1, VHT 2/90/2-VHT 4x12- Audix i5 mic off axis....

Tell me what you think of the tone with no tubes in it....

ill be damned if thats not the finest tone ive ever heard from you Steve! you found the Holy Grail tone! :D

maybe that will finally put all the asshats to rest about the JMP-1 :)

Exactly.....
I remember doing this a long time ago when someone first mentioned that the tubes only warmed up the tone. But I just bought another JMP1 and had it open, so I figured I'd try it again and record it....
And just as the schematics would lead you to believe....the tubes are 100% in the signal path. None of the channels or even direct worked without them...
Hopefully, we can refer to this clip in the future when the next shit for brains says the tubes can be removed....LOL

I never use this saying, but I do have to say...
Pwned

I've pulled both tubes from mine, so I knew what you were up to, but it was fun to download nonetheless :D

Steve,
I know this will sound idiotic, but what is the point of this? When I read you had pulled the tubes, I knew I wasn't gonna hear squat... Hope I am not being too dense here.

I knew I was't going to hear anything also, however, I couldn't keep from listening, thinking... well... maybe.

Of course, I got what I expected. Pure digital silence.

Because every time there is a "preamp" thread, people say that the JMP1 is not an all tube signal path....
Point proven...
It was not intended for guys like you who know better....

LOL, gotcha. Just who in the world says that the tubes aren't in the signal path??? What are they there for, just to glow? Anyone who has ever played or listened to that preamp has to know by thier ears the tubes are there for a reason... Geez, at least I don't feel as stupid as I did...lol

Definitely your best tones and playing ever, however, I still think some of the irregular frequencies went right beyond that I5... maybe adding another mic would really kick things up a notch...

Well Bro, there is some truth to this. The Tubes were put in the JMP1 preamp to warm up the tone and that's probably what people are talking about. It is my understanding that the distortion of the JMP preamp is not being created by the 12ax7 tubes, it is being created elsware. The tubes were put into the preamp to warm up the sound. Just because the preamp will not work without the tubes does not make the JMP an all tube preamp path. The tubes complete the circuit and the preamp will not work without them being in there.

Classic. :D

Steve, do you have same tubes in both of your JMP-1s?

It would be killer to hear some clips of JMP-1s with different tubes when played with exact same settings.
