Steve, do you have same tubes in both of your JMP-1s?

It would be killer to hear some clips of JMP-1s with different tubes when played with exact same settings.

No...
One has EH 12ax7's and the other has high gain JJ's..
Maybe I'll dabble a bit...

That would be great, Steve!

I've been thinking of swapping the tubes in my JMP-1 for JJ's. The JMP-1 doesn't get too much playing time nowadays because of my Triaxis...

This is pretty funny Steve but the JMP does get most of its distortion from diodes. Here's a schematic: http://www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/jmp1-61-04.pdf

There are 4 diodes in the preamp, D4-D7. The tubes are functional but it is mostly a solid state preamp.

I find it funny that people blacklist it and don't recommend it to people just because it's not t3h pUr3 t00b!!! They're damn good sounding preamps! I wish people would stop caring if amps were 100% t00b and just play what sounds good.

It's also funny that people claim they work without tubes, morons.

Here is what all you people have been waiting for. I decided to pull the two tubes from one of my JMP1 preamps and record a clip to see what effect the tubes have on the overall sound.
The signal path was...
My Suhr Custom-LyricHG cable-JMP1, VHT 2/90/2-VHT 4x12- Audix i5 mic off axis....

Tell me what you think of the tone with no tubes in it....
