Thanks guys. I had the amp set really, really bright, because for some reason lately, while I'm recording and playing back in my software, everything sounds really dark. I guess I over did it.

I really like the amp a lot. Especially the last couple of days. I'm getting it dialed in.

oh, ok, cool. That makes sense... the ones i've tried sound a bit like a woodier/thicker/less trebly soldano avenger. whereas your clip probably sounded treblier than the soldano!

Glad you like it. I'll get some kind of cornford at some point, i guess. problem is there's no dealers here, I'm not sure whether to go for the ones i've tried and really liked, or to chance one of the other models...

Settings are too bright for my tastes but, Cornfords rule! I want a Carrera one day when money is no object and $1,800 on an 8 watt amp won't bother me :aww:

Send it to me and I'll transfer the setting to your amp. :D

with Doug's advice from Doug's Tubes, I replaced my MK50II's power tubes with TAD 6L6s, and I love the difference. Where before I thought the amp was a little bright with the stock Groove Tubes 5881s, it really warmed up with the TADs

I didn't mind the lead tone. like most have said, rhythm is really bright. doesn't have beef to it.

This one that I have isn't bright at all. I just set it real bright because it sounded dark when I was playing it back through my software. It's acually quite dark IMO. I do need new tubes though. I'll most likely put some SED's in the power section. I have the TAD's in my Elmwood and really like those too, but they're EL34's. You're acually the second person to suggest the TAD's to me with the Cornford though. Maybe I should check those out too.

here is a link to a pre-production scratch recording I did in the studio:

This was the first time I had the opportunity to crank the amp after getting it, so I've dialed it in a bit better to what I am looking for since.

Sounds great man! Yep, that sounds like the amp I have.

Thanks, The amp definitely has plenty of beef when dialed it. The eq, presence, and resonance knobs offer a ton of different sounds.

Sounds similar to a Zinky Mofo...not as smooth though.Has that small amount of (under-wound transformer) sag to it like a Zinky Mofo too! Here's a tip for the SLO and (for the lucky few) Zinky Mofo owners: Remove the 12ax7 tube from the V1 position, and replace it with a 5751 tube. You will immediately experience dynamics you didn't think your amp was capable of.(I tried this on my Bogner XTC 101B...but it still sounded like shit!)
It's all variations on the Marshall sound.I've owned many different boutique (NMV) amplifiers, and I have yet to find one more enjoyable than my 100 watt Marshall "Plexi" running at 90-100 volts via a Tenma Variac and a THD Hot Plate.I'm wondering if the Cornford is capable of more bottom end? I must play one soon...
In the MV amp department,I have not found a master volume amplifier that can invoke the kind of mojo that I get from my Zinky Mofo 50 watt head.Bruce Zinky must come from planet TONE!!! Only 100 Mofo amps exist...if you see one for sale-buy it!
Thank me later... ;)

Did a quick clip of the Cornford and thought I'd share.

hey man, do u use high output pickups by any chance? I guess for the crunchy rhythm metal thing its cool, but when u play single note lines, i hear like a buzzy/nasally sound that I've also heard on your cameron clips..let's hear your strat through that puppy Id like to hear the difference going on compared to your humbucker guuitars...if u dont mind

This thread is really old. I traded this amp away in July I think. But, yes, they were Bare Knuckle Rebel Yells in the guitar I used, so they were high output, and usually use high output pickups. And I like a lot of gain, so..... I'm not a pro by any means either and use a $150 recording setup and usually do these clip from downloading the backing track to posting them in about an hour. They're not going to be perfect by any means and not everybody is going to like the clips I make. But they are what they are and I am what I am. :dunno:

I don't have the Strat anymore either. I took it back and put it towards a 68RI LP Custom VOS. :scared:

I'm getting ready to post my les paul classic gold top with EVH bridge pickup for pretty cheap..its hardly played..Les Pauls's are just not my thing, but i do appreciate their big classic sound. next time u ever try a strat out , play the YJM....it may put a spell on you!

The Cornford you had was your best amp. You blew it when you sold it. That Cameron garbage thing you have just goes spththhehfksslfkekrjeklth....Nothing like that Cornford. If you were smart you would get it back.
