Mine didn't have a Kahler. It had a vintage trem on it. It looks professional. There's also an extra switch because it had EMG's at one point. Otherwise, pretty good. It's played though, so paint chips. I can post pics sometime. Maybe spring, I'll take the heard outside and shoot some good picks of them.
Apparently I can't read haha......I'd say in this market definitely 4K for a pointy with a Floyd. Strat head prob 5K; pre pro 6K+ depending on condition/finish/originality. But pre pro stuff can be faked; I'd only consider one after serious research.
This market ain't changing anytime soon...this last week there was a 1971 JMP 50 at a GC for 3500..it wasn't there when I looked 2 hrs earlier....gone when I clicked on the item. Even later an AFD head for 1700! Of course, gone.....there seems to be a group of resellers out there that continue to snap up good deals only to flip on ebay/reverb later.

I usually nope out of the Kahlers, but I've always wondered how they really work as hardtails, like the Slayer dudes set them up.
There are some advantages to Kahlers; you get a real slinky feel which can be cool. And, each string can be raised/lowered individually. Sustain is not as good as a Floyd but not dead like many assume. It is a darker tone than a Floyd. A little thicker too than a Floyd.
I prefer Floyds but a Kahler doesn't mean a no go for me.

I owned two guitars in the 80's with Kahler Pro's. Neither one of them had tuning or sustain issues that I recall. It's been a while, and I got more particular about details later. I do recall that most guitars came with a lower Kahler that you could upgrade with a kit if necessary and that did have a pretty significant affect on things. Despite the non-locking saddles, I just don't recall them having any real issues. I've used Floyds forever and just stick with them, or use several hardtails and just stick with them.

I do wonder how many of the "known issues" with them are assumptions, as opposed to from real experience. I just don't know as they pretty much disappeared 30 years ago.

Looks just like my 88' Japanese made Model 2 except the bridge and tiger stripe. My white has turned vintage yellow.. not sure why his hasn't. I put a Gotoh 1996 on mine recently and that is the best FR I've ever played.

All of my vintage USA Charvels, had Kahlers except for my recent 1984 'rescue' that was completely parted out save for the input jack and plate. They all performed well, and one that had a consistent G string tuning issue was solved by changing the rollers out for steel..which also brightens up the tone. Those rollers can wear and 'catch' as the guitar is played.
I have a cool 1983 Van Nuys Schecter superstrat that also has a Kahler...no tuning issues at all with it. Sustains as well as my 3 Floyded USA Charvels. Kahlers get a bad rap; but with a little learning curve work great. Definitely a thicker/less snappy tone though, vs a Floyd.

You can always tell a Model series vs a USA version by the volume knob placement...on the USA it's right in the middle between the side of the pickup ring and edge of the guitar; vs the model series that has the volume knob closer to the pickup ring.

They work better as hardtails than they do as trems in my experience

I'd personally never buy another guitar with a Kahler CAM tremolo.

Lets see some pictures of them!
