After I got my cabs re-coned, two speakers in one, all four in the other... I just turned down a bit. Still very very loud, I used a cab with four greenback 20 re-issues on all my Euro dates and never hurt them. Also the old US cabs are both running fine now...there is a threshold that can be easily crossed with original old speakers that had never been re-coned. After really finding a reasonable volume that accessed the sweet spot for the head and cabs, all has been well. You can hear the amp through the re issue 20's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=yo ... NixNq8B9-w

Good to have you John...I spoke to you briefly through the gear page. My moniker over there is JDavisNJ.

Good to hear you like the Cameron. I really liked their amps at the NY amp show and hope to have one some day when I have the cash.

I meant to ask you previously, you say that you use a 4x12 with greenbacks. Are they 25 or 30 watters??

Sorry for the off topic post.

Hi Joe, great to hear from you. In the states and for recording, i use an old early 70's Marshall 4x12 that my dad got me when I was 15, it has the old greenback 25's. In Europe, I borrow one with vintage 30's. Hope this helps! thanks...JW

Definitely John, thanks! For past Porcupine Tree albums, was the greenback cab used? Particularly on "Fear of a Blank Planet?" the mid section of Anesthetize is a great example of the sound I'm talking about.

The greenback cab was only used on Blackest Eyes (with the 30th anniversary head) prior to the Fear sessions, it was used on most of the tones on the Fear sessions, although the diezel was run through a marshall cab with 75's as we did not want to blow up the old cab. Parts of the middle of Aneth are 30th anniv Marshall and Diezel combined....with a PRS singlecut.

I actually blew a vintage 30 in Europe with the Cameron Modded head, (100 watts) and I take it easy on my old cab here as one of the original greenbacks is scraping a bit after the last US tour that involved the Cameron head....it is a POWERFUL head.

I have played 100 watt Marshalls for years....something in the Cameron head seems to make it a bit more powerful.

thanks..JW

I was told to run a load box on them precious oldies I got some as well. That way they are a little more safer. If your running one 4x12 cab at 16ohm get a 16ohm load box. Make sure the load box can handle much more power than what the amp is. Then go to an 8 ohm load on your head which is much better for the speakers. Makes for a better feel to IMO. Depends on what your used to though. Either way your speakers are a little safer.

You could just mismatch and place the 16ohm cab plugged in the 8 ohm speaker output of the amp, that will cause no harm as well. DONT do it in reverse or you'll blow your amp.

Sorry, but that's a quite old misconception. If the poweramp is not a very exotic design, you can use any cab from 1 ohms to 60 on any outputs. It will not harm the amp. The only thing needs to be done is to have some load on it. No load, amp blow.
16 Ohm tap means the nominated power of the amp will be present in case of a 16 Ohm cab is attached.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. So, you're saying running an amp at 16ohms into a 4ohm cab is fine? No harm will come to the amp?

No harm to the amp. Probably it will sound different, but it will not blow.
