Curious about these fine German amps.

I was on the Mesa Artist Roster List and played their amps for 18 years.
Please do not take offense to this, but it is just my humble opinion that you are not going to be happy with a Mesa amp after playing a Diezel of any type.
As stated, it sounds from your own description, that you should audtion a Herbert first, and later add to that amp, a VH4.

Yes, there are a lot of boutique and high-end amps available out there, but I have found that they don't live up to all the hype. Diezel amps exceed the claims they make, which are conservatively expressed, as well as backed up by the kindest, most thoughtful, intelligent, and fair people, who do not forget you after the sale.

What I have found about Mesa amps is that they add way too many bells and whistles to their amps to offer every possible playing option there is. All this does in the end is degrade the signal and tone and make it extremely hard to just dial in the damn sound you want immediately.

Every Mesa MK IV and MK V owner who plugged into my Diezels immediately said..."That is the tone I have been trying to find in my amp for a long time".

I really appreciate the input and thought that has been put into all of these answers. I can hardly wait, not only to one day buy one, but to actually find a local place where I can test drive the Herbert and VH4. I went to Wild West Guitars (here in Riverside, CA) a couple years ago and at that time they had a Diezel (don't remember which one) and I should have then but at that time I was with a friend who was shopping for an Orange and a new PRS. My bad lol I should have let him do his thing and plugged into the Diezel.

I have had my Herbert about a month and simply LOVE IT!

This is the first amp I have owned (and I have owned ALOT OF THEM)
that seems to keep getting better and better the more I play/tweak the settings.
Its a MONSTER that can do it all.....and sound GREAT at all channels.

This is because you are getting used to the amp, tones and the controle. For me its the same experience, even after 1,5 year. In the beginning i had the same problem as i see with alot off herbert players, gain on channel 2 and 3 to high. I played the vh4 a couple off years ago and didnt like it. But to be honest im gassing for 1 now. I could def. make it work. I bet i eq the amp wrong. I mean i love the herbert but i would also like the vh4 in my tone stack. The clean and od channels have a flavor that i have become to love, it has a surtan vibe going on.

Your right on the VH4....
I had one of them before the Herbert. Loved it. Perfect amp all around. I just think the Herbert suits 'my style' a little better. Will still be adding a VH4 to my rig again one of these days.

I don't see how anybody could EQ the amp wrong. When testing out a new amp, I usually just put everything at noon and go from there and the VH4 sounds pretty damn good with the EQ flat.
