That stinks. Local shop I do repairs for is super stocked, but its been hit or miss, so really low inventory times and some high inventory times. Alot of the stock is consignment, since as we have seen dealing with reverb.com is a pain.

There are 2 other small shops in the area, one is doing pretty well, the other is close to closing its doors.

On a side not, the manager for the local GC sent his amp to the small shop to have it repaired, versus send it to Chicago through the GC channel. Thought that was interesting.
Probably knows his people can't pack for shit!

Interesting data points - I travel around the greater DC & Baltimore area, and eastern PA frequently- the local stores that have used gear seem to be doing OK with a modest but noticeable uptick of inventory in amps, pedals, guitars/basses. Occasional bargains to be found for things that aren't super rare/high demand, particularly if they have cosmetic wear & tear. Maybe younger buyers are turned off by scratches & dings. I grabbed a made in USA early 90s solid state 1x12 Fender practice amp over the weekend for a friend that was plenty road worn but fully functional from a Reverb local pickup seller at about 40% of his original price, a steal.

Very frustrating right now.I don't make big bucks by any means, but I work hard and save up to buy a nice boutique piece of gear every now and then.
I've had my eye on a jackson soloist on rev for 2800.00 a few months ago( which is too much- prob 1800 is more realistic on it after researching that model). It's now listed at 5200.00 by a new owner I believe. I can't afford that. I just cant.

I think we have covered the economic conditions well already, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into the specific gear.

I am seeing everything slow down, but it seems like guitars are still moving at the local shop the most. Pedal sales are pretty slow and amp sales have really slowed. Now this is just one small shop that I do repairs for, so not sure what everyone else is seeing.

If the slow down on the amp sales is more than just the small shop, I think it might be due to tube availability and the number of ampless solutions that exist.
The over prices have hurt sales . If prices were normal I’d buy a lot more . But these prices stop me instantly.

I feel you . This shit is bad

I don’t know that the world has seen that the Russian military is weaker than estimated, although certainly it looks weak compared to the propaganda. If you think Putin is a “madman” who is dedicating all the Russian military to DESTROY UKRAINE and become Russian Hitler or whatever, then the results are surely underwhelming.

Russia’s aims and approach in Ukraine is completely different than the US approach in countries like Iraq. Russia did not attempt to pulverize everything in its path with air power and long range munitions before sending in an armored blitzkrieg to simply mop up and worry about collateral damage afterwards.

You could argue that it was naive but Russia was pretty careful and measured in how and where it applied what type of force, and Ukrainian forces have done everything they could to take advantage and set up scenarios where Russia would have to either attack civilian infrastructure, let themselves be fired upon, or abandon objectives.

Of course you could say that Russia shouldn’t be there anyway, but as an American I find the irony beyond absurd. This is not “good vs evil” this is realpolitik and unfortunately I cannot even support the US government’s aims because they’ve shown increasingly that they have nothing at all to do with what’s good for me and my family.
i know what you are TRYING to say, but there is waaaaaay too much destruction to ukraines infrastructure in certain regions for me not to push back a little,

no, it was no shock and awe, but there are DEFINITELY large towns where huge swaths of the town now dont exist. the destruction of railways, bridges, roads and power plants makes me actually believe contrary to you, and my opinion is that the invasion was not fully prepped and with intelligence when they were told to move ahead
i think their generals didnt think putin was serious about it (yet)

either way, their failure to retain footholds in some areas concerns me thst putin could very well stsrt firing the BIG rockets.... but again, who knows,,,

5200.00. Insane
2800 maybe if it’s a early 80’s USA made in pristine condition with the original case.

Ok about $1200 and probably about $1250 after tax. Weren’t these around $800 new a couple years ago?
Yeah, yikes. I'd be interested at $800-$900 maybe. Here where I live in AR, the $1200 would be $1317 with tax. I'd rather not.

There's weird vicious cycle going on with people overpricing gear. Like a piece of gear is worth say $2-300, sells for around there regularly. Then some idiot lists it for $2000 (literally saw this happen a couple weeks ago, beat up old piece of 90's gear).

So then people see that and start adjusting their own listings, and now that crappy rack effect is listed all over reverb/ebay for $1k+. It's still not worth that at all, in fact in this specific instance someone auctioned one on ebay no reserve and it sold for $240 as it should have.

But all of the listings stay at $1-2k and no one is buying because the sellers are stupid.

'Marshall raised the prices on most of their amps during COVID, Some amps they raised the price TWICE,

the 2525h, the sc20h and sv20h (and the cabs and combos) - all had prices raised THREE times during covid

the sc20h went from 1200 to 1700 in 18 months, pure profiteering off of irresponsible "covid money" spending

For sure. I believe in the past 3 years, they went from $1199 to $1299, to $1349, to $1599, and now $1749. Insane.

A JVM410H is now $3199!
