Damnit...Should I do it? (following Thump's idea)

I did it. I get a 48 hour approval period as well, so even if it turns out to be a dog I am only out shipping charges.

On top of that, I talked to the guy (this is coming from Lance at Ray's Guitars in Detroit) who assured me this is one of the best early 80s customs he has had in his shop. So, all in all, I am pretty sure it is going to rock

I've actually owned an '82 Silverburst Custom, and I thought that it was overly heavy and the build quality wasn't that great. --I'd hang onto that quilt top, it's definately a higher quality instrument.

If you really gotta have a guitar from 82, get a Dean or a Hamer, both are instruments with really great build quality that will shame the LP that you want, as well as perhaps the one that you currently own.

Just now saw this! To be honest, I was born in '72 and my LP Custom is a '71, but close enough for me. Still feels like it's from my birth year and it's a hell of a conversation piece. Not to mention a killer playing and sounding axe.

Anyway, it's my belief that the late '70s and early '80s guitars are the next to jump in price. It may not be for 4-5 years, but they're next. So what I'm saying is that if you really want a guitar from your birth year, I'd jump on it. It will keep going up and up in price as the years go by.

Plus, those silverburst LPs are highly sought after anyway, which makes it even cooler! Heck yeah, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Yeah, I am definately pumped to get it. After reading your threads a couple of months back the idea just kinda stuck with me. I tend to bond with my guitars and not let them go, so the idea of having one that has been around the same amount of time I have is pretty damn cool. It should be here by the beginning of next week (plus, the boss will be out of town so I should get to take an entire day to just jam when it comes in).
Of course, I will do a full set of pics and everything  It already looks to be in great condition:

I also tend to agree that the late 70s/early 80s are the ones about to make the jump in value. Especially some of the Fenders before production moved to Japan.

So I did it! Just got the silverburst in yesterday...I am absolutely in love with it. The action is essentially dumped on the fretboard w/ zero buzz, the neck is even more comfortable to play than my strat, and it sounds like a hammer through my Cameron. I definately made the right move here!

Meh, most 1981 guitars totally suck.

I'll take an '88, please.

The ones with EMGs? Ive played one of those, pretty terrible. Worse than the early 80s ones.

I didn't mean I wanted a Les Paul

I'll take a Charvel or an Ibanez, again.
