Not dissing Gilmour at all, but I think that size of a rig is ridiculous. His tones don't seem all that unique to me. I mean, his playing is beautiful and I love it, but it seems like you could easily get his tones with a Fender Twin and a handful of pedals, right? Am I the only one that thinks that???

PS - I most familiar with DSOTM, The Wall, and Momentary Lapse of Reason. Never owned any others, but know what I hear on the radio and stuff.

I'm wit ya.

Isn't he known for plugging his guitar straight into the mixing board in the studio for some stuff?

I think his tone is great, but it doesn't sound that hard to achieve to me. No offense! ;)

Not too sure on the mixing board, but I know he uses a HiWatt combo for recording. In the DVD Remember that Night he states that, being that it may just be for the recording of On an Island, but I would assume that he used that setup in most of his career since his sound hasn't really changed that much.

and BTW his tone is godly. Just listen to the first opening tracks from On an Island.

From everything I have heard, read, seen he uses the 100 watt heads to record, not a combo. He probably uses both, but I have never heard of a combo.

The only combo I know of him using is a Mk 1 combo, but who knows.

I was surprised by the amt of gain and tones he got in "Live at Pompeii" video. 1972 and those Hiwatts were rockin!

i watched that last night because of this thread!

guessing a lot of the gain sound is from a fuzz?

i think his tone is unique, but do agree with the right pedals somebody outta be able to get close with a Twin.

"In 1992-94 sessions for The Division Bell, Gilmour used a pair of Hiwatt 50 watt combo amps, known as the SA212 series."

He also states that in an interview in the 2nd disc of Remember that Night.

I know he probably didn't use them in early Floyd, but I think he does after The Division Bell.

Wow man, that video was freaking great.. I don't know who these people are, though. Who is that dude singing? He is a singin' mofo in a Don Henley kinda way.

And those guitars players are sick. I'm embarassed to admit that I don't know who they are... :aww:

PS - And pleaaaaaaaase... I know that Roger Waters. I mean everyone else.

I'm watching this video again and dude, it's killer! I don't know this song, but it's so perfectly performed by everyone! Like I said before, that singer is just perfect and the guitars are awesome, of course. Very nicely done. I may have to learn more about Doyle Bramhall, 'cause his playing in the vid is doing IT for me.

the songs called dogs, its on animals. probally gilmours best work if you ask me, and yes, they pull it off amazingly. heres the original

I could be wrong about this, but I believe Snowy White toured with Floyd a couple of times as their "second guitarist". Not sure what tours, but it would make sense that he knows their tunes inside and out. Maybe someone could lend some more insight to this?
