"a $5k amplifier should not have the ability to sound bad at any setting"
Hmmmmmm..............
Let me think a moment. Just because someone can drop 5K on an amp, doesn't mean they have the skills to make it sing.
And never underestimate the ability of "artists" to create a hot mess out of nearly anything.
You have an opinion re: certain Diezel amps, this is clear. Everyone is entitled. Your specious arguments diminishing the value of these amps, however, reveals some agenda. It's alright to have your own preference in tone. It can end there. Nothing is gained by pissing on other options that are well regarded by many in the forum in which you are posting.
Just my opinion.

so you cannot talk about an X brand product, in X brand forum, unless it is positive information only?

where did you see these rules posted? and who made you dick queen boss to tell me otherwise?

you have stated your opinion. now here is mine regarding you and your agenda telling me, where i can and cannot post an opinion on a forum based around freedom of speech where the title is specifically wrote and i do mean letter for letter r-i-g-t-a-l-k.

for $5,000, expectations would be to open the chassis and see gold-plated hardware and diamond encrusted PCB boards. if it does not, then it had better sound like a $5,000 amplifier now shouldnt it?

because for $5,000 you can easily buy a car, or put a down payment on a new house, with $5,000. correct?

so the expectations to buy a product with such a price set for retail would increase substantially and exponentially for the sound it had better deliver. if it does not, - a reason as to why for that person's expectations or a reason as to why it does not deliver on the price set for retail should soon follow. if you dont like that reason or opinion as to why, then tough shit. that does not give you any excuse or reason to tell me i have no voice in sharing this on a public forum. shove my opinion straight up your own ass and continue to put me on your block list for all i care. just because my opinion is different from a mass majority does not give you a single reason to tell me i am wrong and have no value in sharing it. you mutually agree or disagree, but you do not tell me i am not allowed to share a point of view about a product just because its not what everyone else is doing.

chew on that for a moment. and next time bite your tongue before you decide to bite off more than you can chew.

I've got a late 2009 model VH4S. It's voiced amazingly well - a work of art. Oddly enough, my love for Channel 2 is growing everytime I play it - there's so much it offers... As for Channel 1, I need to upgrade a V-pre, as it's getting a bit fizzy (to be expected), but otherwise, Ch.2 has go the goods (think Aenima from Tool - exact voicing for that song!!). As for Channel 4, I work the EQ, careful with the mic versus room sound - I've come to realize that with proper mids and presence, it's exactly what it should be - a searing hot, over-the-top version of the notorious and beloved Channel 3.

I run mine with hot 6550's. It's awesome. Chinese/Shuguang 12AX7B's. No going back.

Just sayin',
V.

not a fan of 6550's, but would be willing to try it with 6L6's possibly?

the clips you posted comparing your Mak4 - what channel were you using there?

Matt,

all I want is a peacefull board.

For the power tubes. Please believe me, that the EL34 is
a tube for musicians. There is no need for a "big" tube because
the amps deliver a lot of bass. A 6550 sound smore sterile than
a 6L6 which has a hifi character to the clean but missing the
punch of a EL34. Of course it´s on You and maybe You should get
Your own experience. Please let us know when You try the
different glasses. I only went to 6550´s when we had issues
with the EL34.

Best,
Peter

with all the best intentions Peter i am only talking about Diezels in the Diezel section - and how the einstein fits the bill, but possibly how difficult it is to try a certain year or series VH4 which is being recommended by other enthusiasts. this does not change the fact you build to meet or exceed customer expectations to the best of your ability

in my very first post i mentioned not every amplifier is for everyone. that still does not give a certain person any reason to do what he did on a public forum, and then send the personal message as follows:

You stated your opinion clearly once at the top of this thread. After various other dialog you spontaneously decided it was necessary to rehash your negative feelings about these amps, not in response to anything, just to hear yourself bloviate. You are being juvenile and disrespectful. I have seen this at Harmony Central, but generally Rig-Talk members are more constructive in their commentary. I rarely speak up in situations like these, but you are bringing dishonor to yourself and this community and embarrassing all of us. I will, indeed, steer clear of any further posts with your name on them. You bring nothing good to the forum and sully anyone who engages you.

dude must want some crackers with that wine :m9:

as for the tubes peter ive always been a fan of the 6L6 due to the headroom of the tube - the 6550 was indeed the tube originally designed for bass amplifiers, not guitar frequencies full octaves higher, but the tube does overdrive simillar to a 6L6 - i just find 6550's lacking in general - not really sterile but nothing like 6L6's or El34's that have their own characters that add to the overall sound

if i could try a revoiced VH4, i would love the opportunity. i thank the other members on the board who pointed out the revisions and made the recommendations, awful kind and generous of them
