Decent VH4S comparison to the power ball I made.

Just wanted to compare since I have both. I love em both, but lean more towards the Diezel as it just sounds clean wise deeper, and the Overdrive is killer. Plus the versatility of having sperate knobs for each channel and basically 6 FX loops (2 for overall and 1 for each channel) makes it so midi versatile.

Don't mind the playing I was going after the tones, not shredding, and mainly comparing the cleans and the rhythm channels.

No idea how often I got beaten and flamed on HCAF when there were those wars about D vs. E. You've made it pretty obvious with your perfect vids what I've said numerous times:
The VH4 sounds like a (perfect) tube amp, the Engl like a Marshall 8100, esp. the distorted sounds. I do know that there is a market for these kind of sounds though.

A 8100 would just be enough - its not as fancy illuminated as those Engls though :D

Hey thanks guys. Yeah I don't go on any board other than this one and the ESP board. As I really only know about custom ESP's and that whole market etc. Their is enough drama at the ESP board, I won't dare go near HC. I get slammed enough for having "fanboy" guitars but my own music is not really metal at all yadda yadda.:

Yeah they are both great amps. I know a lot of people jock the ENGl SE saying it is the best etc. Never played one but the Powerball is great for an amp around 2K, if you have the coin I would go with the VH4. My VH4S really sounds sick as it has EL34's and has been biased, so in essence it sounds just like my VH4 I had, but stereo. The chorus and delay especially when the cabs are spread apart sound slammin. Nice job Peter

Everyone keeps asking me about the difference in power between the VH4 and VH4S and too be frank I don't know anything about wattage and ohms etc. All I say is, "it sounds like my Vh4" "It does not sound as phishy or liquidy as people say the distortion sounds like if you just set it up right" and "it is loooooouuuuuuddddd!" Also the metal heads are all like "dude you need more gain man" I am like guys I am not a metal head, liten to my songs, I like my gain on channel 3 at like noon for rhythm.

I can't wait for my Diezel front loaded cab coming this week to match my rear loaded one. I am selling one of the boogies on EBAY. Should sound even sweeter :D

Funny, I've had a new Powerball for three weeks, then it had to go. My old marshall 8100 is now a footbench so my feet are against the heating. Really.
Before the Pball i've had Recto's and Mark series. But the Pball is too non-organic to my taste. The Pball is very tight, but too tight to play with EMG's.
Well, it's all a matter of taste.

Sean, saw your jamsession videos.
For better sound you should use the Edirol R-09

It's stereo, and the mikes really handle the high volume so well. My drummer has one and makes beautifull recordings in our small rehearsalroom. We play at highvolume (2 guitarplayers, VH4 and 5150, earplugs!!!). Uor drummers set it between the drumkit and guitaramps and plugs in a headphone, thats his monitor!! Sounds stereo and good.

Yeah I hear ya. I don;t ever play them in the same day as then I really compare them and notice the differences. but it is nice to have a second amp with some different tones, and also my lead player in my band has a Line 6 Spider III, which I am not bashing, but when we start playing live....one side a Diezel and EMG's.......the other Spider III with passives....the tones just wont mesh very well IMO for rhythm playing

I'm sorry man I had to laugh at that.....I could just see this little Line 6 amp over in the corner wimpering hahaha

HAIL DIEZEL!

Yeah I know, but yanno....he is does not have much money so he has to get what he can afford; :D

FWIW I do a Diezel/Engl comparison every time my band (or what's left of it) rehearses. Einstein vs Invader 150. The Invader's a true 'Marshall on German steroids' with a really nice clean - I'm pretty impressed by Engl's pre-amp - but I prefer the Einie! I don't need to switch channel for anything from death metal rhythm to stoner rock via Tool as it does everything. At the same time. Yay Diezel! ;)

Sean... Talk your guitarist into saving for an Einie! He won't regret it, hehe!

Yeah I wish, but I don;t think he has the coin for one. :( Maybe tops an Marshall combo, solid state even :( )

That's depressing... :(

I know, but if it comes down to it, and we gig. I'll let him him use my powerballzzzz

hey sean thx for that vid! it just proved my opinion about the pb again. i know (and love) the vh4's sound from my own setup although i use more mids in ch 3. but the tone you have in combination with the kl is just amazing. the powerball's cleans sound a bit dull to my ears, not that 'alive' as the ones from the vh4. the od-sounds seem to be kinda compressed and a bit muddy. although its a good amp the pb imo lacks clarity when you for example play an open chord in overdrive mode. anyway, thanks for those vids!

No prob man. I love making gear review vids :)

Expect a new one soon. A double vid. Of a review of an old but mint 1990 old shape ESP Explorer with the Middle Finger Inlays (EET FUK) that I had the old EMG 81/81 to a 60/81 so the cleans should be much better as I do not like the 81 for the neck and now the both front and rear loaded cabs.

hey Sean, you're the reason I'me going crazy gasing a VH4!! f*ck U!!

:P hehe thanks for all your videos man, REALLY.... you make my youtube xperience way more fun.

I LOVE ESPs, I LOVE Diezel, I LOVE METALLICA AND JAMES HETFIELD, so you got it all in those vids for me.

I have 2 request tho:

Would you mind making a video with the JH1 or an Explorer with this specs:

Clean channel testing with NO chorus, just some good old reverb (play something nice, metallica/your own stuff i don't mind)

Channel 3 and 4, with HEAVY stuff, try dialing up the VH4 to get a more "and justice/black album" tone (a bit more gain and stuff) just so we can listen to the VH4 getting heavier and meaner?

second request:

A BLUES video! :P hehe

I know i know you don't play tha' blues, but I'm torn between the Herbie/Vh4 and I play a lot of poprock with bluesy feel/tone and I'de like to hear some more of the vh4 doing this. Would you mind?

I know it's a lot, but I'd REALLY appreciate it man!.

By the way, don't pay attention to the "fanboy guitars" comment, I'd love to own all those guitars you own.

cheers. :)

Hey man no prob. I am a fanboy at heart. ;)

But at present moment I sold all the JH's 1,2, and 3 (I had 2 JH-2's and 2 JH-3's) and also :( the Ken Lawrence.

I'll make some new vids of course with the new cam and better sound it has soon. Probably next one will be the EET FUK with the EMG pup change to a 60/81wih the new Diezel Cab

sure man, use any ESP you want, I asked for those because I like the way they look hehehe but they sound alike.

If you have a Strat for the "bluesy vid" then the better, but I don't mind man... cheers

Why did you sell the KL !?!?!?!?! :gethim:

Ahh just love my set neck old school ESP Explorers and Full thickness Eclipses. Plus being in a band situation, I dont want the KL out and about as I am afraid of dinging or scratching it. :( But I love the tonez I am getting from the Explorers and the Full thickness Eclipses and when I compared them to the KL, thru the Diezel and Powerball the tonez were negligible.

Sean - If you like the Powerball, you'd love the SE. I wasn't a big fan of the Powerball when I owned it but I love the SE and Fireball. I got to play another Powerball a few months ago and liked it more thean the one I owned. I think I didn't like that Powerball because between the time I bought it on ebay and the time I received it I got to play a Herbert so it kind of ruined the Powerball for me.  A few months later I had my Herbert.
I actually just sold my SE though - replaced it with a Fireball and an EQ and a Splawn Nito since I really only used it for the heavy stuff and didn't need the extra channels/features.

Speaking of Diezel vs. ENGL...

Diezel 2, ENGL 0

It's fun to see a grown up man, all calm, playing some metal riffs. :D
Thanks for the clips, I enjoyed watching them.

I'm not trying to shrink ENGLs in any way, but Diezels are just so well balanced & defined. Difference between the 2 is like 15 year old I & than I'm all grown up. No doubt they both have different places in music scene.
