Seen him in 77 and they rocked it hard. I do solute the Nug for his longevity. Like Kiss I moved on to better music pretty quickly. His music and pentatonic licks fit in the 70s. Love Damn Yankees as he was surrounded by far superior musicians. Ya I've never done drugs, I didn't dodge the draft, I didn't have pedophile tendency...ok Ted ?

Big Ted fan here. I will never forget coming home from my local record shop in 1978 with Double Live Gonzo in hand. I played that thing till there were no more grooves! I got up to Scream Dream and kinda lost touch with his music after that point.

Derek St. Holmes in my opinion is not simply one of Nugent's singers, he is THE Ted Nugent singer.

Here is one of my favorite Nugent "deep cuts."

oh man!! I was 10 years old, my grandmother had just got me my 1st guitar, and I was at her house watching Ted on tv at Cal Jam 2. I was hooked lolol

I know this whole forum is a bunch of guys that grew up in the 80s, and I love 80s music, but I gotta tell you, the 70s were a fucking believable decade of music.

In High School I was in the class of '80 so I grew up with so much of the killer stuff.

Great post brother! I went forever knowing something was odd about the solo’s until I realized that it wasn’t Ted all the way through….? I can’t believe the talent that Derek has… pipes and hands…. My dream as a guitarist is just to be able to walk up on stage and just rip like that…. Or like skynnerd during freebird… just nothing but tasteful ripping…lick after lick…. Alas I have a broken hammer for a right hand and toes instead of fingers on the left…. Ohhh well….

Also growing up in the 70’s was cool…. The jukebox at the local pool was nothing but cat scratch fever, skynnerd, Floyd, zeppelin, Steve miller, frampton…. Then the 80’s….lots of good stuff from the 80’s besides the hair shit…. The world started shifting towards a darker direction in the 90’s. For you younger guys-I’m sorry you missed it. It was literally a happier time.

took two days for my ears to stop ringing after a Nuge show. his stacks of dimed dual showmans was one of the biggest middle fingers in rock history.

I’ve seen Nugent probably ten times and his bands are always very tight and very loud! It’s a bummer he’s no longer touring. One more run of shows with St. Holmes would be killer. Those two on stage together are something special. Derek is still gigging, saw him last year, and he still sounds incredible. Excellent guitarist, too!

Ted? He has always had so much natural energy he’s never had any desire or need for drugs. He saw very early on what alcohol, drugs and even tobacco did to many of his fellow musicians. In my opinion, there’s no way he could masterfully tame the feedback LIVE every night like he did from a hollow body through multiple Fender stacks played at extremely high volume and be all strung out on coke. And he still puts most players to shame.

I know this may sound silly but I traded my VHII record for Double Live Gonzo (y) When I was 12 years old.

'Ol Ted can still mop the floor with a lot of the so called badasses we have now.
