Could you imagine two Mesa Mark series bros, corresponding coast to coast on this matter? West coast guy, “Dude, set your bass to 9 o’clock, it’s killer!” Then the east coast guy sets his to 12 o’clock to make up for the time difference. “Dude, it’s a flubby mess this way”. End of friendship.

Similar issue occurs if you use degrees of a circle and communicate across country lines. 180° would be around 2 out of 10, 0° would be about 8 out of 10. So when the American tells his Canadian friend that he sets his 2203 to 180° for gigs, the Canadian sets it to 82.2° (6 out of 10) and kills the front row.
