Yeah, it’s a hammond organ into his guitar rig. He was an innovator.

If you see pics of Ed playing his Les Paul on the 1980 tour it’s during And The Cradle Will Rock . They were tuned standard on that song so I guess he figured he’d just use his Les Paul while Mike played the keyboards.
 
Anyone else think all those duelling back and forth shred keyboard/guitar solos on so many of the 80s Shrapnel releases sounded goofy AF? Especially when the keyboards are emulating guitar like licks. It’s like Jonathan Rudess heard that and went, “that’s so cool but how do I make it sound more carnival like?”

I dunno? Tony MacAlpine did most of those keyboard solos. Dude has chops.
However, the Jordan Rudess comment is so spot on, I almost spit out my drink.

I‘d never deny MacAlpine’s amazing feel and musicianship. One of the very best from that scene.
