Hey guys,
you may know that im interested in the diezel herbert. Im playing in a metalcore/deathmetal band but in my freetime (is that correct english  ???) im playing jazz and lots of dream theater and joe satriani. Thats the point where the Diezels came in, i need very flexibel amps. The only questions is the herbert or the vh4, ther herbert is more brutal but im totaly confused that bands like korn, killswitch engage, etc. are useing the vh4. I mean its a beast too but ther herbert :D ...
So which amp do you think fits better into the metalcore/deathcore style the vh4 or the herbert?

I'd recommend the Herbert. I got the same needs as u do (Metalcore and BigBand stuff etc....) and yeah...I'm pretty happy and I've never been disappointed. But all in all it's just a matter of taste ;)

:D that's true
but there are things i woant understand...
if i belive the diezel userthread wes borland (limp bizkit) plays an vh4, but the herbert does the craziest nu metal things i've ever herad, doesn't it?

well I think that the VH4 is the most famous diezelamp in the USA (or maybe even in the whole world. Tell me what u think first when u hear "Diezel" -> VH4) and that's why nobody paid attention to the Herbert (in the past) especially the music-stores who (it's just a guess) just ordered the VH4 beeing afraid of not selling the amp coz of its price...try to find a store offering a Herbert and try to find one offering a VH4(s). There might be a lot of more stores offering the VH4 than the Herbert, Einstein or Schmidt...

So far what I heard in Japain it is the other way around. They like more the Herbert and I dont know why.
In germany it's equal...

Just my 2 cents and remember: This is just my opinion and just a guess

Cheers,

Niklas :)

The Herbert is plenty versatile and with a little tweaking you can get all the sounds you are after, and for the highest gain the herbert is KING!

herbert fo sure look at my amps on my sig...its listed first for a reason

I would probably suggest the herbert also. I haven't played it but it sounds right up your alley considering what I know about it.

Try both amps and then decide! It´s a matter of taste. The Herbert sounds a little bit better when played at low volumes. The VH4 need some more volume but then it sounds great! :D But it´s a matter of taste! And when you testdrive the amps, play at the volumes where you need it in your band!

IMO VH4 is more brutal ounding than Herbert. I'd pick a VH4 for death metal & like.

Herbert is awesome!
VH4 is awesome.
Now, you'd have to choose which Awesome you want.
Tough call.

I went with the Herbert. Love it and no regrets. I had an Einstein previously.
:)

I owned them both and my personal prefference..........HERBERT DELIVERS in SPADES!!

I just wish I had BOTH of them!!

Still cant go wrong with either.....they both rule!!

I own a VH4 and it is plenty brutal for anything you need.

If you would like to hear clips of what it sounds like in a progressive metalcore situation, check mine out.

If you've ever heard of the band 'Architects', they used VH4's on their latest album.

For the tones you are searching, band contest and freetime, i suggest you the VH4.
Brutal is a sum of many factor: technique, axe not only the voice of the amp...but i repeat in first position technique.

+3

And it's not just cuz I own one... It's the fact that there's a lot of versatility with the V, and its percussive nature makes knees weak. There was someone who said it takes volume to sound right, I agree 100%. If you're not going past noon on the V, it's not showing its true colors. But once past that point on the volume levels, it breathes like a dragon but stays ultra focused, super articulate, and wickedly potent :D Interesting thing is, the ever-so-poplar 'GAIN' controls totally get turned down when the power valves start doing their thing. The V's power section is where the true grunt and muscle come into play, not the preamp.

Just my 2 cents.

V.

i play this kind of music, with the Herbert. you can check https://www.myspace.com/reanima - the latest song ("a needle in your arm") is recorded with the Herbert. :)

I tried the VH4 too of course, and both would do great - this is really up to the last percent of personal taste, for me, after tying the VH4 and then plugging in the Herbert, i knew right away that this is my amp. Such a brutal, punishing, chest-punching tone...i was in love right form the start, and i still am.

fantastic guitar tones dude!

And yes.....the end result is so much more than just an amp.

This was the same for me. I owned a VH4S before and loved it.

Then I plugged into a Herbert and it BLEW ME AWAY.
Sold the VH4 and bought the Herbert. Havent been happier with an amp! ;)
