Diezel Herbert and Bogner Fish

Okay a curious question to make sure I understand something correctly.

I have a chance to get a Fish preamp. I know the Bogner tone is totally different from the Diezel tone and thought it would be cool to have both. If I have the Fish preamp in my rack I can run it into the return of the Herbert switchable loop and when the loop is on the Bogner Pre and Herbert Power is all that is coming out. When Off I have my beautiful Herbert Pre and Power section together.

Is the above correct? Has very many of you tried something like this for a tonal difference for certain occasions. What are the concerns in doing this? Would it be better to just get a seperate power amp and blend the two, maybe Herbert totally dry and true stereo with effects blended in?

Thoughts?

I never did it with those two pieces but have done it with several other amps and preamps.

I did a bunch of A/B side by side with a bunch of amps power section and all the popular rack mount power section and found I like the poweramp in my Mesa Mark IV better than anything else. With the 5 band EQ and 8 voices it covers a lot of ground.

I just loop the preamps in my GCX and switch them with presets. Some preamps work better with some power-amps. So all you can do is try it and see what you get. But I am one of those strange people that can use any good tube amp and get something that works for me (It always sounds like me).

With some amps there is some small bleed of sound that sounds horrible from the mother amp the way you are talking about using it. If the front end of the mother amp is getting nothing ~ this has solved this for me.

I look at buying any head with a loop as buying a preamp and poweramp....

first of all get the fish. it is maybe the most amazing preamp out there.
second blend them in stereo.
get the fish. period.

The fish is acquired and I think I will use a separate power amp and use the Fish/FX/Power Amp for wet signal and the Herbert totally dry for sonic madness. Together I think they will be a great sonic fit and may just create a Sinkhole everywhere we play.

Congrats on getting the Fish!

Keep in mind that the power section of your Herbert will color the tone a lot. A friend of mine ran his Axe-Fx through a Mesa 2:90 and the different tone emulations sounded very similar. When running it through his solid state poweramp the voicings were clearly different.

This may not apply the same way in your case. You should try the Fish through the Herbert before you decide about a separate poweramp. You may dial in a tone you like.

Congrats on the fish

Bogners and diezels go very well together.

I will definitely give this a shot. Main reason I wanted to go separate power amp was to have full stereo wet as well as a full backup if on a gig the Herbert was to ever fail. I really could live with the Herbert by itself with no effects it sounds so massive and great. The Bogners have a different tonality to them and a different feel so it will be quite fun to mix them together and have the stereo FX as well as a good backup in case my most loved Herbert has any issues....

Those are very good reasons to have the poweramp in your rig. Be warned though, once you have the versatility of stereo nothing else will suffice.

I know what you mean about backups. I always have 2 guitars per tuning set to go. Any time I break a string on stage (not often) I can just swap out. I've thought about getting a backup VH4S too. I think my wallet hates me. ;)

fish, alas not the best choice....flat and dead sound....I would have paid attention to soldano x88

I got the Fish in a good trade and I have heard one before and would not call it flat and dead, but everybody hears things differently.

Besides next to the Herbert everything sounds flat and dead anyway, well maybe a VH4 can come close (flame suit on).

In this case you will need a good dual looper ;) preferably completely passive

Id check your tubes in the fish,( also Rob from Tone Merchants is an expert on the fish)...my fish sounds absolutely unreal!..and it feels like youre playing through a head, no difference...I am currently running a herbert for some dry sounds, and everything in this rack as wet sounds, all to thier own cabs..it works flawlessly..took a while to get it right though..one word of advice( dont skimp on power amps) :)

Both those VHT power amps look sick! Just amazing! Cool to hear another Diezel Fish user out there. I have a Mesa 2:50:2 power amp that I am going to try, if that does not work out then I will go grab a VHT 2150 probably. Love the Chrome Classic you have there.

Is that one of those military grade spring-loaded shock racks? Those are nice. Looks like you have a few extra Diezel cabs too. You should send one my way. That's one helluva rig!

ya, ha,,I think " gas" got a whole new meaning for me,like - "I'm broke".L.O.L...The rack is a mesa shockmount 20 spc..I yet have to add a CAE.3+ pre, mesa quad, and maybe an egnater..but a Diezel pre would just kill!...all the heads are for dry sounds, all the rack is for wet sounds..and heres a few more...
