I'm new to this forum.
I've been a proud Herbert owner for about two years now.
I simply don't have anything to say about the amazing sound. I'm simply in love with that clean tone and that wonderful crunch.

My only question is regarding the "presence" in the band mix. I always played as the only guitar in all the bands I had.
Now, in my new Alter Bridge tribute, we have two guitarists.
The other one plays ESP guitars in a Mesa Triple Rectifier amp.
The quality of the sound is not (in my opinion and by my own taste) as good as mine (with PRS guitars).
The only thing is that sometimes my sound don't seem to get out of the mix as much as the other one. It sounds like it is too compressed.

I'm not a tube amps expert, so the only thing I know is what I hear.
Based on your experience (maybe, experiences similar to mine), what are the possible "causes"? The type of power amp tubes? Preamp tubes? Wrong settings? Something else?
Every advice will be accepted.
Thanks...

What cab(s) are you using? I found a Diezel front loaded cab really punches through. The one I have is with V30's, but I have a new one with GK12-100's on the way.

The triple rec being so much hi mid focused is hard to fight, especially the way most people dial them.

The right way of fixing your problem is dialing your bandmate's amp right. A good thing is to spend some time dialing the settings of both of you together & finding the right mix for the overall best sound.
I do understand that this is not always an option & in that case I would suggest looking at a different cab/speaker. Riding the presence is not a solution to your problem.

I'm playing it through an Ampeg 4x12 guitar cab.
It's not a popular one, but it always sound great, so I never thought it could be the problem.

I'm playing PRS and Gibson guitars (stock pickups in each) through my herbert with a guitarist playing Jacksons (EMG loaded) through a Dual Rectifier. Running through a frontloaded cab with 2 K100s and 2 WGS Vet 30s for practice, I run Channel 2+ with everything at noon for rhythm. For solos, Channel 3 with the Volume and Gain at noon, mid and highs at 3 and the bass at 9-10. My Les Paul is brighter and boomier than the PRS, so I keep the presence and deep at noon for it and around 1-2 for the PRS. Those setting work very well cutting through against the Rec. The biggest thing that helped was adjusting the mid cut. I was running the level and intensity around noon, but I backed the intensity down to about 10 and that made a big difference.

The drummer, bassist and other guitarist all say I cut right through everything and they usually hear me over anything else. I keep asking them if I'm to loud, I don't want to overpower anyone, but they all seem very happy with where I'm at, so it's not a volume thing as much as the sound just cutting through. For the record, the other guitarist is very anal about his sound with the Rec and is NOT one of those crank the bass and treble, cut the mids kind of guys. He's a big time tweaker and knows the controls well and gets a pretty damn good sound out of his Rectifier. And I say that generally disliking every Rectifier I've heard and played.

Don't know if that helps or not, but thought I'd share my experience in a similar situation.

[Edit] Should have mention, running all SED preamp tubes and SED =C= power tubes, 4x EL34s and 2x 6L6s.

Thank you.
I think mid-cut is usually "abused". It gives you an amazing sound when playing alone, but put you out of the mix when playing in a band.
The same was true when I tried as a child a BBE with an old ADA MP1. Great sound, but no more punch in the mix!

So I'm glad my idea was right.

I have both Diezel FL Cabs (older & newer) One wtih V30/V12 combo & the new FL with the G12K100s. They cut thru every mix..no questions asked. You may want to try a different speaker/cab congifuration. Goes a looong way IMO.

In this particular case May I kindly suggest a Diezel Rear Loaded Hemp Cone. Based on what you are saying on your personal side with musical style and gear used and also based on what the other guitar player plays this would be a good fit....not that the front loaded Diezel cab would not work wonderfully because it would. The cabinet (either one) will definitely make a positive and very noticeable difference. I also agree with EQ'ing the "guitar rigs" together to find the magic spot for both of you. Open the power section of the herbert and do not be afraid to use the mids and treble. The amp will cut fine. Anything further please ask.
