Any of you guys think we'll see anything like this from Egnater in the near future? On the other hand, I think you could modify an Egnater or Randall to get close to any of these tones. However, it would be cool to see a two channel Diezel hit the streets!

I've been doing some extensive... and I mean EXTENSIVE... listening to Lames Lugo's amp shootout.

Really trying to study what makes different amps sound different. And by doing so, I've really been fine tuning my ear. (not to mention learning alot about different types of components, resistors, caps, etc).

Besides the Rectifier, and in some ways the SLO, most of the amps sound like hot rodded marshalls, in some way or another. Just different flavors. The Diezels, I think, are no exception. They seem like they have a very stiff midrange, and are very midrange heavy in general.

Try taking the EG3/4, and using a 100pf, instead of 1000pf, cap. Sounds kinda Diezel-ish to me...

I agree, most of the amps do sound that way.

But I'd have to say, I think some of it is the fact that the amps were not all kept flat. James (and/or the other players) all said on the videos that they were "dialing them in until they liked the sound," and I think they just like the sound of hot rodded Marshalls. Because of that, it's no wonder they all sounded pretty Marshall-esque, except for amps that really can't sound that way.

I think their tests were fantastic for what they were, but I think perhaps a way to test each amp's natural character would have been to have left all the EQs at neutral. The results may have sounded significantly different with some of those amps.

Where was this module shootout, guys?

You know, the older I get and the more time I spend with amps...that is such a true statement. Maybe that is why the more I change, the more I come back to Marshalls, and modded Marshalls. I almost feel like I have all I need with my Plexi, SL2 and EG3/4. I feel I can get anything from Plexi to Bogner with these modules.

Jick, you said to change the tube board cap from 100pf, instead of 1000pf, right? Remember mine is at 500pf right now. What are you thinking that the smaller cap equates to stiffer mids? Biggest difference to me was that the EG3/4 darkened up a a bit. Maybe I'll experiement.

The smaller the cap on the tube-board, the less treble attentuation.

Exactly Nick, but how does that equate to stiffer mids?

Where is this amp shootout you speak of???

The Diezel VH4 clip on there barely even sounds like a VH4. When I think VH4 I think Tool, Metallica, and Muse (which is very bass heavy).

I still wish they would do one or two more high gain monsters. Maybe an Bogner Uberschall or Ecstacy, maybe a VHT type module, etc.....

But, they have done a lot for us...and for that, I am thankful.
