Please respond only if you LIKE the V30's. (I've already read a ton of posts that cover complaints about V30's)

Of all the speakers that I like, the Vintage 30 always takes 1st prize. (But recently, I'm really diggin' the G12-65, too!)

Am I correct in thinking that there are 3 main types of V30's? (Mesa, UK made and China made) I've been out of the loop for awhile.

How would you describe the characteristics of any of those 3 models? Comparisons also welcome!

Thanks much.

I had a quad built in 1993 in the UK and a newer Chinese quad. Played em side by side in the same cab. 93’s were warmer, mids cut better, Chinese were more rhythmic (attack & pick noises stood out more above the actual note being played). I preferred the 93’s, which you could see were made of different materials.

i have a few v30 cabs and few random single ones, i have no clue where any of them were made or when. i know when i play them, they all sound like v30s

There are more. Plus there's a blur between UK made and China made depending on the year. But there's also the Marshall type (the original), the Bad Cat type, the old Mode Four type, the Dave Mustaine... there's tons of other variatons, honestly.

It's been recently discussed that year of manufacture makes more of a difference than country of manufacture. That's pretty much the jist of this video if you don't wanna watch the whole hour:

Plus 8 vs. 16 ohm sound radically different too.

same. most I've noticed is I like older speakers, which at this point, can even be after we joined the forum. Gat dayum.

They're all good, but certain eras are gooder than others.

Personally I absolutely love the early 90s UK made v30s.

Racer and others love the Marshall branded "vintage" ones in the late 80s.

Still others prefer the early 2000s Mesa OEM uk v30s.

Even with that there's a ton of variation - I've heard newer orange cabs with Chinese ones that sound fantastic

Someone here did an extensive review on all the versions but I can't remember who.

I love the Chinese v30s . I love what they do for what I’m looking for . I have cab with OGv30s and use it too though

Like others have said, year of manufacture matters more than where they are made. That said you can find good examples from pretty much any year, and especially if they are well broken in. I've got a couple Chinese v30's from 2006 or 2007 that have a lot of hours on them. Those are probably my personal favorite speakers. They have this nice 3d quality to them and they are nice and bright without being harsh.

Honestly, all of them are good as long as they have been soaked in water

They're all good speakers IMO. Which version you like best will depend on the ohms and cab they are in just as much as the year of manufacture, not to mention every individual speaker has some variance.

That's getting a little old dude. Do you honestly doubt it happened though? I've got the speakers here just 10ft from me, water damage, seriously. Someone in my building thought it would be cool to do that to me. Fucking prick, I know his name too, ........ computer nerd that only showers once a month and thinks he's really damn cool. He doesn't know the difference between a bass and a guitar, just knows that he hates both.

He spends all of his time and money attacking me on the internet and in real life.

If it happened, that is horrible. But you are a self proclaimed drug addict, and that original post was gold. It will live on forever

Doesn't matter if I use drugs or not, I'm telling you, it happened.
