How did Dime make his guitar sound like a warped record in a lot of his tunes ? Also he would have the these cat screeching noises that were all over the song Becoming , this tune has the warped record sound and screechs all over it , I`m guessing there was some studio trickery involved. Anyways Long Live Dime

Digitech Whammy pedal. Don't know what you mean by warped record but he's using a whammy on the song you posted too.

MXR flanger doubler. Old blue two space rack unit. He used that thing all the time.

Early in the bar room days,it was in the rack at the p.a. console. Ambrose(the sound man) would crank the level on the channel the MXR was on during Darrells solo. Right before the solo, Darrell would raise his pick hand over his head, like he was raising his hand in class, to signal Ambrose to crank the effects channel.

If you listen to early albums, you can hear his guitar tone absolutely dripping with this effect. Almost too much,IMO.

this is a WHAMMY pedal.. 100%... probably set to some weird '+2octave and something' setting..

Well maybe warped record was a confusing term but in this tune I`m guessing it`s the whammy also ? His riffing here sounds like he`s on a roller coaster if that makes any sense

Yeah that's the whammy pedal. Darrell loved that thing as much as Kirk hammett loves his wah pedal. Lol well maybe not that much.

What settings were on the harmony leads for Hollow and Cemetery Gates? Just a 3rd down?

I always figured he just double tracked those.

Yeah, he had to have double tracked those. The tracking on the Whammy was nowhere near that good. Live, he kicked on the Whammy as a harmonizer for very short sections of solos, IIRC.

You're prolly thinking of the MXR Flanger box, the blue one. He used that a lot, along with the MXR 10 band EQ and the Digitech Whammy.

Yep but that EQ was actually the 6 band going straight into the input IIRC.

Oh yeah, you're right! It was the old MXR Blue box EQ, right? I was thinking of the newer MXR EQ, the 10 band in a black enclosure.

EDIT - There's a guy selling the aforementioned MXR 10 Band EQ right here on the boards. It's the KFK model (Kerry King).

There's a Dimebag Sound group on FB that Grady posts in all the time, answering questions and telling stories occasionally. He's gone into GREAT detail about Dime's rig through the years.

Harmonies and delays came from FOH, everything else was done by Grady/Dime back at the rig. I never knew that, I always figured the harmonies came from the Whammy pedal and never even realized there wasn't a delay unit in the rig.
