I figured this was a project some of you may want to see, perhaps even get ideas from or copy so thought I'd post up.

My home studio had to move to a different room in the house (much better room, actually) so I'm doing some things to optimize my space and wanted to get guitars out of their cases, on display and off the floor.

While looking for ideas I found pics from a guy on TGP who built something similar ( https://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... ?t=1189129 ) so I took the idea and ran with it.

I'll be installing the guitar hangars on the side of each hangar bracket instead of at the very end of the bracket like the guy (Bob) from TGP did.

For those wondering about the structural integrity to hold a guitar on the bracket. Each bracket is both glued and screwed. Glue applied on the mating surfaces and three 2-1/4" screws into each.

The mounting board is curly soft Maple and the hangar brackets are 8/4 Poplar. My supplier didn't have 8/4 Maple and for the brackets but I think once stained the Poplar will actually be a nice contrast to the curly Maple since it will absorb the stain differently

It's going to get a Cherry stain, lacquer and should be ready to install next week. I'll post more pics once it's up.

Very cool .... My problem here is I just need a bigger place.

Nice Shop  need some "Festools" in there, but then that severely hurts gear funds

Oh yeah nice job

Luv shop work :D

Wow!

Some gorgeously figured wood you got back there. Flame ON!!

Hahaha, well, until I find a NEED for one, I'm done buying tools.

LOL... you should see what I've got in the rafters. Most of the stuff against the wall is short stock.

HVLP for the stain and finish?

I like to brush the stain. Lacquer will probably be HVLP, although I do have several cans of Mohawk pre-cat lacquer I need to get rid of so I may just empty a bunch of those on the job. HVLP will certainly be easier, particularly on my index fingers.

Stained... the picture with the flash really shows the figuring under the stain that will reveal itself once this thing is finished.

Thanks guys! Can't wait to get this mounted. It's one of the last major pieces to completing the new room setup, although I still need to find a solution for heads so I'll probably do a small, matching head rack.

Awesome! You need to sell those!

Realistically, I might sell 1 of them. I'm stepping away from the custom work except for myself and friends/family because there's just no money in it, mostly because people aren't willing to pay custom item prices. Offshored products are definitely their best bet. :)

Are you sure that's enough room between racks? It looks like a snug fit.

Yep, should be plenty of room. The racks are at a 30 degree angle off the backing board so the full guitar width isn't necessary between each. 16" seems to be about what many have used for spacing when the guitars are flush with the wall. These are somewhere just over 11".

Look at the flame on that one... Can you hear the sustain? Well, you would if it were playing.

Nice shop.

Didn't plan on posting anything else until it was mounted but I'm one coat of lacquer from done and am digging how it's turned out so thought I'd share another step in the process.

Instead of just going straight up stained I used a dark red Mahogany toner around the edges of the backing board and the hangar brackets.
