Do you guys follow Splawn Amplification on FB?

I've owned 4 Splawns over the years: a 100 Watt QR and a 100 watt Nitro - both 'pre' Mid/Cut and Old/New switches and then a pair of 50 watters: a QR and a Nitro both sporting the Mid/Cut and Old/New switches. I ended up selling the Nitro only because the QR in 3rd Gear with the Mids 'Cut' in 'New' voicing is literally the Nitro circuit without the resonance control. And I found that the Nitro threw so much low end and lo-mids that I rarely had the Resonance control higher than maybe 2. SO as cool as the Nitro was, it was sort of redundant with the fully loaded QR.

Every time I wonder if I should move the 50 Watt Fully Loaded QR along, all I need to do is plug into it and step through the gears and flip a few switches and its just a 'hard stop' on letting it go. Splawns are not as slippery or 'greasy' feeling under the fingers as a Mesa Mark Series or a Cameron or a Gower - but once you get over the tighter, slightly stiffer 'feel' of the amp, you realize how muscular and ballsy it sounds in a full band mix - whether live or recorded. Splawn just carves out its own spot in the sonic spectrum and sounds 'up front' in a way that few amps do.

I've owned 3 Quick Rods and a Nitro with EL34s and later I changed it to use KT 88s. I installed some Gold Lions (y)
I regret letting go my 1st Quick Rod and the Nitro.

Just chiming in here on how cool Scott is. I’ve spoken with him on the phone quite a few times. He always took the time to talk and hear what I was hearing. Very appreciative of a guy like that. I have a Splawn modded Marshall with KT-88’s and he built me a custom foot switch with lights and I love service like that.

I have the latest version Quickrod 100 w all the options and its just a great sounding amp. Sounds like a mean modded Marshall, way more open than say a Friedman even at TV volumes. Cheap too on the 2nd hand market.

The mid-cut takes away some upper-mids that classic marshall sound and a makes it smoother sounding like a Friedman. The new switch adds a little gain and thickens up the sound, more lower mids.

Motorboy1 has a great description. The switches feel like modest but noticeable boost/cut of 2 different midrange frequencies - low mid and higher mid. I find that they really do help the amp play nice with a wider variety of speakers and cabinets.

I played mostly Splawn amps for close to 10 years. I used to bring 2006 Pro Mod and Quickrod heads + a 4x12 small block cab to gigs. No shortage of love, especially those late 2006 and 2007 amps.

I had 5 over the years, only one I didn’t love was a 2014 50-watter. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t the same.

Scott rebuilt my 79 Marshall 2203 that was having issues, he rebuilt it with one of his boards. I then purchased a 2004 Quickrod new from him but it was a bit redundant with my Marshall so I sold it after my band broke up.

I'm still rocking my 79 Splawn Marshall 20 years later! It's been a great workhorse amp that just has killer tones and I love the solo boost and rhythm/lead switching that ya don't have with a stock 2203 Marshall.

I wonder if he still mods Marshalls? I know he quit at one time because he had a lot of orders for his own amps.
I only live about 40 mins away from his shop.

It's a double edged sword for sure. You can order any amp with any options that are on other amp models. I borrowed a Super Comp from a buddy that had a ton of weird things that aren't normally on it. Tried selling it here for him and everyone kept chiming in how it's not "this" or "that", but I had receipts. The dude will literally do anything you want, but it seems no two Splawns are alike.
That was Dumble’s downfall. 😉

I follow a lot of guys on FB to keep up dated on new amps and gear. Lately Scott has been posting some videos of him playing their new guitars and playing through a Quickrod. Some of the tones he's getting make me really want a Splawn amp! Check this one out! It's one amp I've never played before.

I’m on my third splawn this time it’s a streetrod. I love the smaller form factor, even if it’s not really lighter. The only problem I ever had with his amps was the amount of gain on tap. Ballzout 100% of the time, when I need ballzin some of the time…I put a 12ay in v2 and at7 in v3, with the 4 button switch I can go from pushed cleans, to plexi crunch, to ballzout 800, and if I need to go extra nasty I just use the OD2 mode. It has a great loop and amazing master volume this is a keeper for sure!!!

I don't think he does anymore, he was just coming out with the Quickrod when I sent him my amp for the rebuild in the fall of 2003.

Scott Splawn is a cool dude! he helped me out back in my early VH tribute band days, got to finally meet him and Greg from Jalen pickups while on tour with DLR, his amps are definetly a good bang for the buck! Might have to get one of his guitars one of these days!
