Do you ship amps insured or not?

Really, the only thing guaranteed if you insure it is against total loss i.e. theft/lost package. Otherwise damage claims will always be denied..but that doesn't mean you can't fight and win in the end. If you are persistent enough you may win..or not.
UPS impaled a double-boxed Jube 2554 combo; and still denied the claim.

I got a 10" Green Beret from WGS two weeks ago. UPS had to change the label for my new address in AZ. While they were shipping it, a 7" long cut in the top of the box dinged the speaker cone, and creased the doping. UPS just put another new label on top, taped over the new label and the cut in the box, and sent it on. Yes, WGS is sending me another one, since it was obviously shipping damage.

But just for the record, I'm officially up to 32 out of 39 damaged shipments with UPS shipping packages to me.

Still don't think insurance might be a good idea?

If someone in UPS steals it. If it is delivered and they prove delivery with their GPS, and then it is stolen, you are SOL.

UPS Stores are a local business and my local store requires they pack it to insure it for damage. I have not had an issue, but I’m assuming they are on the hook with me if something guys wrong.

Imagine shipping a big money amp to a bro(with big insurance and having the store box it up costing big money) and doesn't work when he gets it. Then he never lets you know it arrived broken until well after the insurance lapses.

About 8 years ago, I shipped a Shiva 1x12 combo. I used the UPS Store "pack & ship promise/guarantee" with a declared value on it. The new owner messaged me to tell me that the amp was damaged. I notified the UPS store, gave them the buyer's contact info, and that was it. They must have made it right, as I heard nothing more from the buyer.

That’s odd

I once had a guy ship me a guitar that showed up broken and he told me it was my fault for not telling him to insure it. Weird dude. Of course Reverb refunded my money. People have strange notions about insurance on items

I packed the hell out of an amp once and they damaged the headshell. Never underestimate their ability to fuck something up.

They tried to deny it but I eventually got it taken care of. Now I only ship if the buyer is ok with letting UPS pack it. If you give them the least bit of wiggle room to deny a claim they will.

I shipped a pedal at office depot a few weeks ago and asked to use their tape gun and they told me "I got it" instead they shipped USPS an empty box up the east coast without any tape on it. Once I showed them all the info they paid it back in full after a couple weeks.

I always insure for the sale price when I ship. Were your buyers aware that you were shipping their amps uninsured? Because I most definitely would not be cool with that.

Ya, I agree, it wouldn’t be cool at all,
I always ask, if I’m selling and shipping, of course, I give the option.
But I have very rarely had anyone agree to the extra $$ for insurance.

When I was shipping, I would shoot a video (at FedEx) of item condition, packing the item, and then releasing it to the FedEx clerk. This way, no one could pull the old "not as described", "I received a bowling ball" or "2x4 in the case" scam.

That’s very wise, completely covering your ass👍

If you ship anything, insure it. It's a pain in the ass, but if anything happens it's your problem, not the recipient. You paid for the service and get stuck with all the bullshit it entails. I don't see why it should ever be the buyer's concern about whether or not you insured something, because if something happens, your ass should be refunding the money to them and dealing with the shipping service. It's a different story if a buyer has an account and you ship on their dime.

Absolutely

This is the first and best answer in the thread. Yes, full stop.

Insurance is the responsibility of the sender. You basically have no other recourse if your amp gets damaged or lost so there's really no other reasonable option than to insure the crap out of anything you ship that's even remotely expensive.
