Maybe, I'm just happy with my gear, but I don't want to change any of them. THey all sound really good.

Am I wrong??

I have no desire on everything minus the EG3/4. I loved the EG3/4 except it being just a bit to dark for my tastes. MInus that, I love the DLX, COD, EG5, SL2, and SL as is.

I'm sure you know, you inspired this thread with your violation of the EG3/4.

Jeff H even pointed out that it's not even like an Egnater TOL after you messed with that cap.

It makes me sad.

I actually think the EG3/4 is maybe a little to bright on the B channel. I find myself spending most of my time on the A (EG3) side.
I love that dark sound.

Oh well. Isn't it all about finding tones that meet each of our needs. Look at what Jeff and Bruce do for people like Ty Tabor, or other guitarists. They want tweaks and such to modules to meet their needs. The cap didn't change that much, except giving it a little more bite on the top end. Sorry, but I like the module a lot more now that I have changed it for my liking. The TOL is a great sound. I really liked it, but had to have the bright switch on 2, and the treble pretty high to get the lead tones I wanted. All I really wanted was to have a bit more bite on the top end, which that cap change gave me. Maybe it sounds more "SL"ish, but it retained what I really liked from the TOL sound. Smooth, punchy, warm, mid-range, and tight punchy low end. It went from a module I liked, to a module I love now. Sorry, if I mod a "holy module" to make it the module I love, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. And I am not sorry for telling other people, because they might like the same tones I like. I know of one other person I told, that really loves the EG3/4 now after modding it. He was planning on selling his EG3/4 because he was in the same boat as I was with it. It really does sound different than the SL and SL2. Still retains that EG3/4 character.

Maybe I'm an ass for modding the module, but I don't care. I love the tone I'm getting from every module.

I'm not really THAT mad at you, Eric. I just think my stuff sounds pretty good right now, and I don't find the 3/4 all that dark IMO. Maybe my "NOS" Sino CHINA tubes make a difference. IDK.

Different strokes for different folks. Throwing Chinese 12ax7a in the stock EG3/4 helped for me, got me halfway to where I wanted. The 250pf cap change, made it what I wanted. Like I said, it is what it is. People are modding the Randall modules all over the place to get tones they want. What's the difference of modding those, or modding a Marshall amp. Nothing.

Eric

some people are tweakers and enjoy it.

i'd love to make my own module to suit my tastes which is the beauty of the modular system. i'd love to get the e-rect schematic and tweak it to suite my needs to get my ultimate tone.

i wouldn't touch my t/d module because in all honesty, there is nothing to improve in that module.

Yep. That's exactly my thoughts. I spend $400 / module, and I am happy with everyone besides the EG3/4. Do a $0.75 cap change, and I'm 100% happy with it! The SL, EG5, DLX, and COD I'm super happy with and don't need to change them for me.

COD needs moar gain for my slop...but heck, a pedal can (mostyl) solve that :D

I am totally mystified why anyone would mess with an EG3/4 though....want bite? Get an SL2.....case solved! :)

I have the SL2 and a modded EG3/4. The modded EG3/4 is definitely tighter on the low end than the SL2. The SL2 is still brighter on the top end. The EG3/4 has better, creamier mids than the SL2. Like I have said before, the EG3/4 was really good before, and changing the cap put it in the perfect territory of where I was wanting to go. The EG3/4 is just much tighter and punchier than the SL2. Much smoother too for leads. So, I disagree here w/ just getting an SL2. Like I have said, the cap change added just enough top end for me. Not a lot was added, just enough to add a bit of top-end bite to it, but nothing approaching the SL2 territory.

Hear what you are saying...but if I went that route (to madness)..I'd need two EG3/4 modules....

Well, I am sorry I pissed you all off w/ me changing my modules. I'll just keep those types of changes to myself from now on, not to ensue another onslaught of pissed off people around here for someone choosing to change Bruce's "holy grail" of tone. Sorry for not jumping on the EG3/4 bandwagon and loving it right out of the box. Guess that does make me a "mad man."

And here I thought the whole point of a modular system was to get the sound you want. If that sound isn't available in a module, why shouldn't you mod it? Nobody gets pissed off when you mod a Marshall, why would Egnater be any different?

:hys: So I guess he doesn't want you as his man friend anymore Eric   I'm not mad I just ordered some caps :D

You're probably right. :) Guess our man friend relationship is now down the drain! All I try to do is to help other people on this forum get the tones they hear in their head. I've achieved them over and over with the Egnater Modules, and I just want to pass that information on to let others use it like I have if that's what they choose. The Egnater stuff still is the best sounding guitar gear on the planet.

Isn't modding amps how Bruce got into this business a long time ago? And isn't the reason why he started the Modular series was because people asked him to mod his IE-4 for them to get the tone they were looking for?
