Dover DA-50 demo

Weirdly, I love most of the clips I've heard of the hiwatt, but this amp didn't do much for me

I played a super hi and loved it. The voicing was very good. I was close to buying it. And then the dover was coming out which i thought hard about. I never really got the whole two channels that are the same thing.

I understand people want to set them different, but without separate loops, i dont find it as useful as two amps.
I would personally prefer two channels voiced the same.

My perfect amp would be a dedicated clean channel and then two identical high gain channels. Let the user decide the difference as opposed to the amp maker saying - this for crunch (rhythm) and this for high gain (lead). You could add tone shaping tools ala boost, bright switch, mid cut etc...

That's just me though.

The Dover has a nice crunch riding on the notes and chords.......the clarity of it comes through as well!

I agree. I have the Super-Hi and the dual gains/masters are kind of useless. I can get the exact same sounds by rolling down my guitar volume as I can by switching masters/gains. What IS useful, though, is the switchable 4th gain stage. That's really all these two amps need. Would make the amps more simple in their layout and less noisy. And you could use the two extra chassis holes for something else... like a mid boost/scoop rotary switch with a few tone stack cap options and a useable depth control (on the Super-Hi at least).
Yes. The volume knob is way more powerful than people give it credit

I had the Super-Hi Fortin and was underwhelmed. Recently picked up a Diezel Big Max and it's one of the best Diezels I've played - hype that :ROFLMAO:
I loved the voicing of the super hi, but it has been years since i played, so i remember it being a very album like tone. But the big max is on my short list. You should bring it up to Matt's sometime. I still havent got to meet you, and he speaks highly of you

A Texas Amp Fest in the future would be fun

Go over to Austin Guitar House. From a pic that was just posted, they have a Big Max and a Morris Perplex'd...go check them out an report back!

I don't think this amp is in production any more?

The Hiwatt is only 50 watts. But it's just a modified DR504. So you could take a DR103 and do the same thing to it. Or contact Hiwatt. They'll build you one.
Guess Dover was short-lived.. Wasn't that guy a Hiwatt employee that branched out? He was involved with Fortin on the Super-Hi, no?
Always liked clips of the DA50.

use a boost of some sort with the Big Max for ultimate chugging - the amp is ball crushing into the 4x12's I've tried it with, gain at noon or a hair over was perfect with an OD.

Proof GAS is incurable. You just got the most hyped of hyped unobtainium amps and are already talking about the next amp! 🤣
Lol I feel ya ! But No I’m just talking about what else even still intesrs me . Lol I don’t think I should buy another amp . But I’d like one of Jeremy’s . Support our rig talker ! But I also never want to seem uninterested in amps like I got a Larry so fuck everything else . lol I do feel happy with what I got .

There is some behind-the-scenes drama regarding this. He worked at Hiwatt, including on the Super-Hi project with Fortin. I think he then left to start Dover and work with Fortin on the Sigil. That didn't go well. Then left Dover to start Valhalla, where he's trying to sell Hiwatt clones for $15,000.
