I like my Epi Inspired by Gibson '63 Les Paul Custom, was pricey for an Epi; but less than 1/3 the price of the Gibson version:

I may use blue painter's tape and write Gibson on it, and put it over the Epiphone logo on the headstock.

edit, I got this Epi shortly after my first new Gibson in decades, a '61 SG Standard in white, and Epiphone is as good all around IMO

I don't know about Epiphone's version or what to recommend for modern takes on it, but can just say the '50's LP Jr's are some of my all time favorite Gibson's and could see them being up your alley given you often like to keep it simple and a more raw sound. That's their forte. It's like a more raw, wild variation of the LP flavor with usually more mahogany growl maybe since there's no maple

For a more affordable option that also kills I'd say a '60's Guild Polara or Thunderbird with their P90's types. Super underrated. For under a grand the Kay or Silvertones with Gold Foil's also can sound killer as long as you find one that is actually playable lol (the harder part). Those pickups also get a raw, wild, open snarl that humbuckers don't get the same way

I think so, and I have the Epi and Gibson to compare. IIRC, the Epi has real MOP inlays, I do know it has 3 x Gibson Custombucker pickups. I also got both the Gibson and Epi, new and on sale. Both included cases.
They are a solid deal. I'd love the 355 but Edwards and Seventy Seven guitars offer competitive pricing on nice ES copies. That'd be a tough choice cause I really love my Edwards.

Also if you use this guitar the "right" way for mean growl, rudeness, etc thorough a good high gain amp, it really is kind of the opposite of a "tan pants" item if that makes you guys feel any better lol

I see a 10 top PRS Private stock as more that kind of guitar and the fact that it's drenched in poly does no favors for sound. I could say the same as well about Suhr and Tom Anderson

Would also recommend checking out the Billie Joe if you're after an Epiphone. They're white and come in a version with a hardcase.
I love my Gibson Pacman Jr! So raw sounding and very resonant.
