Had this amp for quite a while. Liked it but it was a bit dry and stiff.

Had it prepped for storage for a few months but never actually moved it.

Been experimenting with different tubes lately and thought I should set this up before putting it away.

Glad I did! Sound perfect now and the leads just flow.

Who needs those Larry ghosts haha!

Cool, what tubes did you end up with that sounded so good?

For this amp I think largely it is the preamp tubes.

In V1 I used and old Sylvania 12ax7

In V2 I used a square getter Chinese 12ax7

And in the phase inverter a Sovtek LPS 12ax7

I did put some old Philips 7581a in the power section. I'm sure this helped some.

This is boosted with an Airis Savage Drive as I like it a bit more than the internal boost.
Why is that?

Also, how would you describe the base tone of the Mini Nightmare? More 'american' or 'british'? I heard some folks describe it as SLO-ish, but I'm not sure if that's accurate...Is it reasonably tight without a boost in high gain mode or so-so?

The internal boost didn't get tight enough or have enough level gain.

I would say it's more OG 5150 but a little more modern.
