I'm driving a couple hours to pick up a DSL100 for a price worth driving. Seems they are going for less than some boutique pedals these days. Any tips or tricks for dialing in these amps? I know they can sound good, I've heard live bands that sounded great with them.

DSL 50 and DSL 100 owner.
These amps were great for a change from my Marks and Rectos.

Classic recipe style: Boss SD-1 out front and EQ in the loop for me. Keeps up with any other amp I own.

Huge fan of keeping the Red Channel for the grit - tight, punchy and bitey while using the Green channel for the spanky Marshall cleans.

Pretty fantastic little tonal tweaks on these amps. Enjoy!

There are no real magic settings. Its just a good sounding amp. For reference, Nuno likes to keep his eq settings pretty low. i.e. Treble at 2-3, mids as 1-2, bass at 4 (out of 10, not o'clock)

I dime the volume on each channel, draw the gain up to taste, and use the masters to set the overall levels. Then hit the fucker with an SD-1.

Put a high gain pre tube like a Ruby HG+, C9 or Tung Sol in V1 to get you in JCM800 territory on green crunch ch. Red ch. is a lot of fun to play. Gain on 3-4 should be plenty enough for that ch.

Other than that, EQ is like a typical Marshall (sans jubilee). It usually comes down to how much treble and presence you want dialed in.

I need one of these. It's one of the few Marshalls I've never owned, and I don't currently own a Marshall at all.

IDK, I have a new DSL40CR which sounds great; I use the classic gain for rhythm and ultra gain for lead, footswitchable, as is the effects loop, where I have simple digital delay. Sounds great for the price IMO

Yeah V1 as well. I didn't like it with green ch though. Not enough gain and took away some bass. It was only beneficial for red ch. Made it more balanced sounding

certain o

certain ones are well known for the PCB's to go to shit and start bias drifting real BAD .....
uh oh. This one is missing tubes and the HT fuse. Seller claims it worked fine, but that's usually a tell tale sign. I see Marshall stopped making the replacement boards as well. :aww:
