Well, it’s that time. Fun is over! Gotta start building a package, why would original owner keep the packaging slide a pricey amp?
I know, I know, the packaging looks like Dr. Frankenstein built it!

The packaging is probably a little overkill just to ship a couple cinder blocks. But the cinder blocks would be usable if not broken upon delivery.

Gotta make the packaging look “believable”…

I bought a vht off a dude on harmony central… he literally wrapped the amp in a ton of shrink wrap. Looked like a giant plastic football. Arrived in perfect shape.

Knowing I don't have as much amp experience as a lot of you, I think this amp may be the most versatile amp I have ever had the chance to play.

My Friedman Twin Sister was pretty darn versatile, but the channels were identical.

This amp should be on a stage somewhere!

Not going to say channel one is meant to be clean, but it sounds fantastic clean. There is a gain knob and it can get dirty, but honestly, I didn't spend enough time on that channel.

Second channel is ridiculous!
All the gain in the world, and then a switch to boost that. And boosted it sounds great.
Rolls back clean nicely.

When I first plugged in, channel two was engaged with the boost on. Gain about 10 oclock or so. sounded great!
Took off the boost and brought the gain up to about 2 oclock and was in heaven.

I think if I had a complaint, it would be the cab.
It is an enormous 2x12!
Not sure on exact dimensions, but it has to be closing in on the size of a 1960B 4x12 cab?
Cant complain on the sound of the cab.

Honestly prefer my Marshall 2061 cab compared to this one.

The red tolex is killer!

I've always wanted to try a sabre, it's one of those amps that got away haha

I have to disagree about the cab though, big 2x12s sound better in the room than small ones, I'm sure mr aiken knows what hes doing

You’re probably right.
Really nice set up.

Until my kids leave, I’m relegated to a small room. Small room doesn’t always sound great.

And the damn kids threaten to never leave! Ugh

I bought a Laboga off a guy overseas, and it came wrapped in cardboard. That was it, and somehow it made it unharmed. I shipped an Uber a few states over to TX, and the train derailed, lol.

Nice job on the packing man, that was the part I was dreading, lol.

If you’re into Marshall, this seems to be a great one to try.
Did I read that only 28 were made?

I consider myself pretty fortunate to be able to help someone out as well as get to keep the amp a bit to mess around with. Would never get the chance otherwise. I’ve had possession of it since January 1st.

Dan, I’m sure you would have given it quite the workout!!!

First time I ever shipped a cab I packed the fuck out of it. Laney tt 4x12. Traded it for a vh140c. It was literally destroyed. I told the guy to just keep it and his amp. Fuckin ups. You couldn’t even tell it was packed when it got to him. He salvaged three of the v30’s…

Obviously yes, I'm very very into marshall tones - and the aiken sabre is one of my "Saved searches" on reverb, just in case one ever pops up

But i'm a working musician, not a professional with a day job, so that's unlikely to be in the cards

I'm jealous you got a chance to check one out!

I’ve been pretty fortunate honestly.

I’ve shipped a Boogie Cali Tweed combo and AC15HW combo. Dirty Shirley head. Gibson Firebird I, Gibson CS ‘62 SG and the list goes on…

Hopefully the streak continues…

I got to thinking about this and I guess I just like the way my 2061 cab is set up.

Speaker above the other and off center with the slant top like a 1960a.

As far as 2x12 cabs go, different configurations seem to work best for different purposes - I've always loved the 2061 cab, but it doesn't seem to push the low end like a bogner OS or (i would assume) something bigger like the aiken

I would guess the 2061 would be better suited to "classic" marshall tones and the bigger ones are better for heavier sounds

That could be just the setup that was around the 2061 when I played it though - my converted (4x10 to 2x12) 1965B is pretty small too though, and it has gobs of low end

I changed speakers to a Celestion creamback and Scumback m75pvc.

I run bass at 1-2, have plenty of bass.

Totally agree with your assessment when it had the stock speakers.

Honestly want to try a pair of 25 watt greenbacks in it.

I use 2 scumback bm75lds in my 1965 as well

I think you're misinterpreting what i'm saying though, i'm not saying your cab sucks at low end lol

I'm saying in general the bigger 2x12 cabs seem to be more focused on that

I’m picking up what you’re putting down now!
