use the description to navigate though which pickups you want to compare. he does them in a mix and guitars by themselves.

this type of video/audio setup will be the way I choose pickups forever probably. how else can you possibly compare?

If you aren't looking for a metal riffage application, I'm sure there are other videos like this for different sounds and styles

I dig it for the most part but I've found it can be a bit too scooped sounding for cutting solos in certain guitars, but nothing a bit of a mid-boost can't cure. It excels at heavy rhythms.

what did it sound scooped in?
guitars

The whole 'scooped thing'...I'm not buying it. But then again...I play 'middy' amps...Engl, EVH, Fryette, Mesa...

Yeah i guess you could say scooped. But not in a bad way imho.

Its just not super middy like a JB (which i also love).

I love the Sh-14 Custom 5. I have it in a middy guitar going into a middy amp and it balances out. I have tried the Sh-5 and the Sh-11 and even the Custom8. All good.

i think the scoop is what i love about them. they sound nice and tight with a lot of amps. definitely an acquired taste if you are used to more open, loose sounding pickups.

Brilliant position to take...any clue how the manufacturer illustrates the eq curve of that pickup? I'll help you out:

But you probably know more than designer/manufacturer...

This pretty much nails it, but it is not as scooped as it indicates, but that depends on what guitar it is in and the amp. I actually like it better than the JB, but that is just me.

What he said, rupe!

Jeez, may I disagree with what HOW the Duncan marketing dept. is trying to convey tone in numbers?! :jerkit:
Let me be clearer again still... IN MY OPINION...I don't find this pickup to be scooped.
Does it have less mids than a JB? Yes.
Less mids than a DiMarzio Evo, Norton? Yes.
Does it make it "scooped" sounding? No.
It's not like 'throw in a Custom5, and suddenly your guitar can only sound like late 80's/early 90's Metallica.'
