So I finally got around to trying the Seymour Duncan Custom SH-5. That's one I've always been curious about. I slapped it in my Hamer Korina Vector, and I have to say I'm really digging it in there. Duncan's description on the website is actually very accurate. This guitar has always been warm and mid range heavy, so the smiley face eq of the pickup works well with it. I found I have to keep the pickup backed up a bit because the low end, while still tight, can end up too prominent. Backed up and it lets the guitar open up a bit and has better pick attack. Will it stay forever in this guitar? Probably not since I'm always swapping stuff haha, but it's definitely a cool one.
Anyway, here's a quick tone test clip. Nothing flashy, just a BS riff through the EVH Stealth 100w red channel. It's just straight in with no post processing. First pass has drums followed by the solo'd guitars. Here's the chain:
Hamer Vector Korina w/SH-5
EVH 5150iii 100S (red channel)
Kerry Wright 4x12 w/Marshall G12 Vintages
SM57
UA Apollo w/1084 preamp sim (no eq)
