Ahoy... I just bought this old Supergroup. Its been modded with a master volume and a fan and redone for primarily 110v. Pulled 2 el34s and don't really need the master volume as its dimed 24/7 now anyway. I really just wanna find out what year this thing is. Serial numbers on these seem kinda random. any input? ideas?

It's a killer amp. I actually had to choose between a 73' Sunn model T and this one... Very hard decision. I had my mind set on the Sunn but after playin them both side by side through an Orange 4x12 v30 I went for the Laney. Definitely has a more rock n roll sound straight in. Interesting channel input layout...

Cool amp. I remember when I was a kid, all the local bands used Sunn Concert Lead amps.

If you pull the chassis out you can look at the dates the tranformers were made. Usualy they were up to a year apart from the date the amp was made. Those are amazing.

Wow, just had it turned way up and blew the HT fuse (750mA). From what I've read its usually caused by the power tubes? Might take it to the tech who did all the mods on it to be sure before sticking another fuse in. The guy is a legend around here. Anybody know why there is two inputs on each the bass & treble channels? or is it an in and out? if so can they be jumped? the thing sounds so killer I hope I have an easy fix!!!!!

Ive owned a few supergroups and love them. Careful as they run on a different voltage and are very sensitive todays higher voltage coming from the wall. I had to buy a box that lowered it down to how it was meant to be run. Ill try to find a link. I know weber makes one but this other one was supposed to be superior.

It has four inputs because it is a copy of a marshall plexi. I don't think the circuit is 100% faithful to the plexi but it is pretty close. This was laneys attempt at a superlead/ superbass.

Does the amp have a steel chassis or aluminium. And does the amp have a bias trimmer ? Some of the early supergroup laneys did not have a bias pot just a fixed resistor and if it only has a resistor then it would be advisable to add a trimmer pot or you will always be blowing fuses and the amp will eat tubes quite quickly.
Killer amps though I have owned several and I always liked the old black style marshall guv'nor pedal with them.

If there are mustard caps in the circuit then there should be codes visible on them and the codes can be used to date the amp
