Cool- that's not an experience i expected someone to have. I have some road ready stuff and really like it. I was thinking the 3/4 or LS might be needed for the 4x MS 12. I wasn't sure but you seem to be confirming that since the RR is closed.

Last year there were deals on RR bass stuff so I picked up the 1516, powerhouse 1000 with the beautiful square diesel grill and 2 x 15L, I assume to tl606 specs. I also scored a super cheap Fathom non-working and a cheap basis m-2000. The Fathom has this weird (red) "open coil inductor" looking thing and it had broke. I jumpered and bam! The squire bass VI I had just picked up came alive and into the 1516 was so fantastic I had to take a few seconds for my fingers to adapt to Faith by the cure as it crowded everything else out of my head.

Hey guys, and welcome Matt! Matt is new to the forum thing but not to Boogies- he has an unbelievable collection that I'm sure I've mentioned to a few of you privately before. First time we met he came by with a van full of amps & we had a mini amp fest at my place. :)

I would love to put the beans to an early Coli just to feel it for myself.

You may be right with that...my first C+, a 2C SRG combo had the MS12 in it and it sounded great. Open back may have been the answer; or as IIB says paired with EV.

Definitely....as beastly as the 2B/C+ Coli I had was, I remember that super early one being on another level entirely.

Welcome Matt!

Lol- Jeremy is waiting to pull the K41x out of my dead hands!
Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I would like to try the all MS 12's but a cross or up/down with the EV's might have to be tried too! I really am surprised I haven't tried a halfback with EV lower / MS 12 upper. The 82 halfback stock with all EV really is a convertible full back. But i expect the OS recto one to be different.

And all this reminds me I still need to send a 417 8H to great plains for a new vc

You own Charlie Daniel's amp? Or do you mean you just know the date of it?
theres always some piece of charlie daniels rig on reverb. i've seen the auctions for his boogies. shit, i used to have one of steve millers mark IVs. Some of those dudes are so big, that their gear gets tied in with tax write offs, endorsements, work expenses, or is owned by a inner "company" of the artist. I've seen it a lot over the years.

Hey have any of you guys run the sovtek wxt+'s (str-430) in a coli? Not only did Charlie's coli's come with mesa labelled 5881's but I've read somewhere MB gave the 425's his approval for the higher plate volts. Given the "20% extra output" marketing of the 6L6gc wxt+ over the 5881wxt, doesn't this mean it can handle the coli schumachers?

Hey Jim, I have no idea how many boogies Charlie had but the only other Boogies I know he owned were the pair of OG Mark or maybe IIA. They were hardwoods with wicker combos iirc.
Are those the ones you saw?

I had one of four of Eddie Money's long purple stripes and that's one I shouldn't have sold.

Per MB, The STR-425 can indeed handle Coli plate voltage. I'm getting a set for the M-180 I picked up since everything else that can handle the voltage is vaporware right now.

The IIC+ / 105 I recently picked up came with a set of STR-430 that still test strong, but I think the amp was a decoration so I doubt they have many hours on them. Guess I'll find out.

A side note, the Rev C I picked up came with a new set of JJ 5881 in it. So, I did a in-the-room test against JJ 6L6GC & JJ EL34. Honestly, the 5881s have the best tone. ...and let's be real, the lower wattage just means you can get the amp into the sweet spot easier, and it's still PLENTY loud enough to gig.

I’ve run STR 425’s in my old C+ KRG without any issues, with MB’s blessing.

This. When MB was turning my B into a C+ I asked him about the TAD 6L6 as they were recommended (I had a plentiful stash of STR 415s at the time), I was looking for plan B when the time came. He recommended the wafer Sovteks as the TAD were turning unreliable. I ran the wafers for a few weeks with no problems; then switched back to the Sylvanias

Another good option to STR 415’s for the Coli PV’s are JAN Sylvania 7581A’s. Kinda hard to track down and spendy, but a real good alternative. Currently running them in my IIB Coli. Been there for a couple of years of abuse -just recently tested them and all tested as new.

Definitely! Those also put out a little more wattage I think? Maybe 25w overall…but they are spendy as you said. I almost bought some years ago but they were 400 for 6…can’t imagine what they are now.

I believe they are rated at 35W vs 30W for the STR415. They seem to be fetching $120-150/ea for NOS these days. Glad I got back-ups years ago (if I ever need them?).

I found an old mark IIB combo in a thrift store a few months ago in MD. No one talks about them and they don’t seem to be desirable so I passed it off. There’s no online shop for it so it isn’t listed online anywhere.

I’ve always liked the pissed off sound of the mark IIIs but I’m not sure if a IIB can be converted to a III?
