Hey Jim -

Have you heard much about the tonal differences between the Ball Family Reserve Petrucci's and the "regular" line?? I think I can swing a regular one, but the Family Reserves are too much right now. I kinda like the Dargie Delight green color like this one:

Plus it doesn't have any paint on the back of the neck. I think the fret board is Ebony too.

I had the regular one, never got to A-B it against the FR's, it was fantastic. The fretwork is flawless. I really cant say enough about how good those guitars are, I just could not come to terms with that really slim neck. It just ended up being too different from what I was used to. I could whole heart-idly recommend one if you like slimmer wizard style necks. Even the stock pups sounded great. Did not know they were offering an ebony fretboard on them now  I really dont think there is a faster neck on the planet. Thats a cool color, I havent seen those yet

Thanks for the feedback man!! I appreciate it! Some of them have rosewood boards and some have ebony. They are kinda all over the place. I would love a Ball family Reserve, but they are kinda spendy. About $2,900.00 or so.

Is the neck really that slim?? I played an older Ibanez Petrucci and it played really nice. I love the Charvel San Dimas profile necks. Are the Music Man's a lot slimmer than those?? What do you like? I see a PRS in your Avatar. Do you like the Wide-Fat neck on those??

I just don't want to order a $2,900.00 guitar and not like the neck, ya know?? Though I've read a ton of good reviews!

I do like the wide-fat neck carve, but honestly its not that wide, and not that fat   for me, it feels perfect. Its not that the Petrucci neck was super tiny, did not mean to give you that impression, if you liked the ibby version of his stuff, I bet you'll love it. I just had 3 of the same thing with different pups I was using, and to switch to the EB in the middle of all that just felt different enough that I had to pay more attention to what I was doing :aww: (if that makes any sense) If it was at least similar to the others it would have been easier to adapt to it. If I had a more varied lineup of axes, I would probably adapt to it better. I kinda like having guitars that feel and play the same, but have different pups for different tones. I'm kinda stuck on the McCartys, at least for now, and have been for awhile. I'm not one of those who have to convince everyone that the axe I play is the best one out there ;) I honestly dont think there is a better guitar out there for someone who likes that neck carve than the Petrucci's. I bet the ebony plays like glass

Ok guys! I finally pulled the trigger. One of these is on the way. Not a Family Reserve, but it's a limited edition. Ebony fretboard, custom inlays (White pearl with paua abalone), Piezo trem/bridge. I like that it doesn't have any finish (paint) on the back of the neck either.

Will post "real" pics when it arrives later in the week.

Thanks for the "GAS" Jim!!

Awesome!!! For me these are really nice, higher end guitars. Built extremely well. Sound great and play superbly. I had to adjust to the frets not being jumbo as thats allI've pretty much used for years. Honestly I really liked the guitar when I first got it, but after a few weeks I totaly fell in love with everything about it. When I go to get some playing time in I don't even think about which guitar I'm going to bust out. The EBMM JP6 is a total joy to play. It is different in feel but like I said once you get used to it you'll be hooked. Congrats and enjoy!!!

great sound!!! I can't wait until I get my hands on a ebmm jp
