Really Gas'n to play a XTC 20th. I'm in love with all of the XTC line. I've played a 100A (freaking great amp), 101B white chassis (its ok, a little congested sounding) 101B (I currently am on my 3rd one 1997, 2001, 2008 and love it although I changed it to pre 2004 specs) and a Classic (again freaking great amp but I can cop a very convincing similar tone with the structure to L and EQ set higher with my 101B). Looking at the 20th schematic, its quite different. Each gain stage has a bypass cap with the 4th gain stage switching in and out a cap (vintage/modern switch). Its looks to be more open with more low end. Kinda a cross between a 101 and Classic. Sound right?

I have the 20th XTC EL34 version and have played for quite some time now. Fantastic amp. All around the best channel switcher i have come across so far. Must be something wrong with the amp you bought.

After having the 101b and then the classic I went to the 20th with el34 and wasn't happy. I thought it would be better then the other models, it wasn't better, just different I was disappointed . It's a nice amp I just expected to much. Imho

20th anni i have is bar none the best channel switcher i have played through when it comes to versatility and raw, chewy organic lead tone. Hell of an amp for almost every style there is. I know there is not such thing as the best in the amp world since it is all a matter of taste and nothing beats a Fender in the clean department. But having played guitar for over 30 years and having played through / owned some amps the 20th anni XTC is the best amp i have played through for my needs.
My 20th sounds like in the following vids: If you do not like that kind of tone then i guess the 20th EL 34 is not for you. If the amp doesn`t sound like in the videos (the amp is very sensitive to what kind of guitars you use)it most likely isn`t working as it should.

I agree, the 20th (6L6) is by far the best channel switcher I've played to date. I like it a lot more than the older XTC models as well...
