Helpful... my XTC needs tubes. So the JJs are out as far as preamps go? I may have to go for the 9th gen Shugs and then some JJs in the power section.

As for the preamp - buy a bunch of LPS', EHX's, Tung-Sol's and chinese and try every combination possible until You'll find Your set. Just watch V3 & V4 cathode follower spots (avoid LPS and TS here).

You might start with LPS in V1 & V5, EHX or/and chinese in V2 & V3 and chinese in V4 & V6.
