My amp search has gone unrewarded lately. A close friend recommended I look for a VHT Pitull. I've heard some people talk about a Sig or SigX coming soon?

The voicing is love or hate IMO. I can't stand the amps or cabs, but most people seem to love them. If I had to guess I would say you would like them.

I don't really know what kind of amps you like Randy... what are you looking for in an amp?

I'm looking for a new flavor of hi gain, so i'm checking everything out. Tell me what you know , im all ears.

edit: This Sigx looks very interesting, especially the gain stage controlls. Im betting this amp could go from Hot Rodded Marshall to Kill your Mother with a Plastic Fork tones in a heartbeat.

This is what I know:

- I liked the UL a lot for leads but struggled to get what I wanted out of it for high gain rhythms (probably my issue, not the amps)
- I bought a D412 which made the UL sound much better all around, to my ears.
- I love the D60/D412 combination
- I played the final Sig:X proto and if I weren't so happy with the single channel on the D60 and the fact that I seem to be drawn to amps with simple controls, I'd be finding a way to buy one. The Sig has three channels and the tones found in all three are superb.

That's all I know. This is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Excellent. Any idea on the price for the X?

I believe MAP is somewhere just over $2k and street should be somewhere in the high $1800's to $1900's.

Wow, that's less than I thought :)

I think I overstated the high $1800's number, but I know for sure that it's going to be under $2k street.

I hope I'm right... I don't want Steve F to make me polish his Rolls Royce again while he drinks all my beer.

I thought I remember reading $2600 map or something close to that. Isn't that close to the Deliverance 120 though? I wonder if there's some price overlap between the Sig_X and Deliverance 120...

Yep, it's going to be priced similarly to the D120.

Hey Bob, big difference between the Sig-X and the U-L? I prefer the U-L over the D so I'm more interested in U-L to Sig-X comparos. Care to shed any wisdom on the tonal differences?

Yes, it's quite a bit different, but there are some similarities too. Steve F was talking about the amp a bit when he had the get together at VHT and he was saying how the Sig has "the best of" technologies from just about every VHT amp, including the GP3 preamp.

I would say that with the Sig, you could get close to the sound of a UL, but not right on the money. Steve F was switching back and forth between the D120 and the Sig:X, seeing how close he could get the Sig to sound. He did get it close, but not identical.

Overall, I think the Sig is capable of being a bit brighter in the upper mids than the UL and what some will perceive as more "saturated."

The versatility of the Sig was one of the most impressive things to me. It's not that it can do a bunch of different tones, it was that every tone from clean to mean was convincing. There was a dude there name Reggie Boyd Jr. who is an absolutely smoking guitar player. Steve was making adjustments on the amp, switching channels, etc. while Reggie was playing and it was absolultely baffling to hear a barely breaking up, spanking clean tone, killer mid-gain tone and then way over the top floggable gain and have all of them sound just spectacular.

I'm not very good at describing tones so I probably haven't helped much, but hopefully you'll get to try one out at Steve VHT's as I'm sure he's got one ordered. :D

I don't understand how a three channel amp with tons of bells and whistles can be priced similarly to the D120. I just don't get that... Any thoughts? How is the SigX not the same price as an Ultra-Lead?

Nope, I have no idea. My guess is a lot of time and energy was spent figuring out how to keep the quality up and the cost down.

Well, the Sig X has 2 instead of 4 powertubes like the D120 and UL, so poweramp is different. Personally, I love VHT CL series but don't care for the cabs. Sig X is gonna be a kick arse amp though, no doubt about it.

Holy crap Bob just gave me gas for something no way I can flip right now.

Randy.....you are approaching Jim aka yngzaklynch in your hunt for an amp

Do this......

buy a 10-12 space rack
buy a Randall RM4 with the plug-ins you like from Chubtone
buy Mesa Quad
buy a VHYT 2/50/2

Call me in two weeks if you are still feeling bad.

Or maybe since it's using technology that was already developed it was cheaper to design? I dunno. I just don't understand how it's not more than $2,000. Heck, a new UL is over $3,000 now.

You almost sound like you're complaining that the Sig is so inexpensive. :D

Steve touched upon components and cost a bit when he was chatting about the amp, but as usual, I missed the details.

Don't question, just believe!

By the way, you WILL own a Sig:X.

Probably! I dunno man, the UL performed GREAT on stage last weekend. I do prefer the D60 in the studio, but the UL is the king on the stage (because of the features and great tone.)

I'm of the opinion that the Sig is better suited to your taste/style than the UL, but we'll see.

I wonder what would be more complimentary, a UL/Sig_X or Deliverance/Sig_X paired up
