The thing is, you can get more "saturation" out of it, but in the end, it's still a VHT, not an Engl. Now you *must* buy a Sig, just so we can find out which of the three amps is your favorite. You owe it to the community.
For the most part Retrofitted is the Uberschall for rhythms and Super Shiva for leads. There are some exceptions like Peanut Butter and Crackers is all Shiva, but it's mostly Uber on rhythms.
I love the 50 CL w/EQ myself. I think there is a rpetty good variety of VHT amps and would tend to think just about everyone can get usable tones out any amp in the lineup.
The Sig-x sounds really promising. As far as the price I think its a damn good price for the amp but also there are a lot of competition once you get past the 2k mark so prehaps thta coupled with VHT using its known technologies form other models in teh Sig X design that maybe there is less R&D needed???
The 50st was the first VHT I every played, and I loved it. It's what made me get the UL without ever hearing one. I don't know if the one I played was the EL34 or EL84 model, but it was a killer rock amp IMO. IIRC it had about the same amount of gain at the UL's rythm channel, or maybe a tad more, but not as much as the UL's lead channel. I think it was a bit chewier too, but it was years ago and my memory isn't the greatest. I just remember thinking that it kicked bootie, but I was playing a JCM 2205 at the time, so that's what I was comparing it to.
