Any specific models to look at? What makes the Nitro finish different than the others? Kind of wanting to try out a Les Paul type guitar but not sure what to look for

The nitro finish doesn`t have 4 inches of poly covering the guitar making it sonically dead...

The E-LP-98LTC is the nitro over poly model.

Sounds like a good reason to get a nitro finish than

Get an old MIJ Burny instead.

Have you tried any of the Edwards out? How does it compare to a old Burny? What about Tokais those any good?

The Edwards LP I had was a huge piece of shit. Felt like plastic, cheapest looking inlays I've ever seen, and it sounded mediocre at best. The Burny I had was awesome though. Extremely heavy with a huge neck like a real Gibson, and it sounded massive as well.

The nitro is not just nitro, it' nitro over poly.
It has less poly than the std finish, but still, it's underneath.

I had this guy:

The white ones look nice, did you end up getting rid of it?

Yeah...like every LP/LP clone I have had. :(
It was nice. Was a bit 'plasticy', but no more than Shecters or LTDs
Neck was huge though.

Complete opposite opinion I have of mine.

A friend of mine has a bunch of Tokai's he got in Japan that are really nice guitars though.

Yeah, my Edwards Flying V was really nice. I always hear that the quality on them is really inconsistent, and I can definitely say that's true.

I just can say good things about them, no matter if poly or nitro/poly or poly or mono or oligo or whatever.

I have a 98 (nitro/poly), my neighbour a poly (Sykes) and a nitro (custom standard). All of them are awesome (a bit different though).

The big plus for (I've played a Gibson LPC for years) is the ebony fretboard on Edward customs. Thats hard to find at other jap manufacturers except Oriville By Gibson (Orvilles don't have ebony either).

Pickups is another story, depends if you like JB/59 . . .

Manufacturing quality is very good.

Plus compared to an older Orville, Tokai, Greco or Burny (I own two Orvilles) is: you get new hardware, you don't need to change the nut, bridge, tuners, . . .

If you want my opinion it depends a lot on the amp you play. With Diezels they sound killer, same with Bogners. I can't vouch for any other amp.
Playability of all my Edwards is superior to the Orville I have.

Here is the deal, you need to find a heavy one. It will sound thicker & more ballsy than Gibsons. If you end up with lightweight guitar there is a good chance that you'll be disappointed.

Nice collection!  I'll be playing it with a Mako Mak2, Vintage Modern and Mark IV.

Whats a good price to pay for one that is used?

Where do you get those, from Japan directly? I did a quick check on evil bay and all the Edwards there were from stores/dealers located in Japan.

This one was really heavy! And had SH1 in the bridge. In bridge position it sounded thicker than many guitars sound with SH1 neck. :D If only I could find the MF who stole it!!!!!
I prefer nitro finish just because of the look, but weight has way more impact on the tone than finish.
Neck is very fat, I don't know if you like it. I dig, plus I like to have 12s on one of them, usually guitars don't handle 12s that well, not a problem with this fatty.
