In 2009 I got back in the game as far as gear purchases go and bought a LOT of gear. To date the most pleasant surprise has been the Edwards LP I picked up (ESP Edwards E-LP-92SD Gold Top Long tenon ). I have only played a handful of Gibson LP's with the best playing/sounding being an early 70's LP Custom. That guitar played and sounded like you would expect an LP to but the others have been a mixed bag.

My Edwards LP plays and sounds better than all the LP's I have played and to me was a steal for the $$ I paid considering the cost of a Gibson. It is by far the guitar I play the most. I put in a set of BKP Crawlers and wow  . Its the type of guitar that inspires you to play. I now have no desire or need to own a Gibson as my LP GAS is quenched. I was wondering how the rest of you felt about the Edwards LPs? Lov'em? Hat'em? If so why? How to you think they stand up to the Gibson as for as build quality, playability and tone? I am surely not as experienced as most here and would like to hear some opinions!

I like mine better than the Gibsons I tried, it's a 112-CE. My opinion isn't as reliable as yours because I just put mine in the classifieds today  Killer guitar but I have to raise a couple thousand bucks for a major purpose or else I'd be hanging onto it. I'll buy another one down the road though, outstanding quality at 1/3 of the price of a Gibson. Great guitars

I have played some edwards and other LP copies that were better than genuine Gibson LPs. However, I have played Gibsons that were much better than any edwards or production LP copy I have ever played.

The don't sound the same, but I couldn't tell which one is better. Gibson does finishes way better, so if you like a nice silverburst or sunburst, Gibson is the place to look at.

BTW, could you DI your LP with Crawlers? I really want to see how these sound through Diezels. It would be a lot of help if you would.

I had one and it was very nice, but the neck felt thinner as far as e string to e string goes and I didn't like that. The same was true of the ESP/LTD EC 1000 that I had.

I have les pauls and wouldnt hestitate for a second to buy a edwards they are really nice, dosent say gibson though....

I own Gibson, Edwards, Orville, Orville by Gibson, Tokai and a super rare Epiphone MIJ (=Orville).

Not sure if you are looking for a "comparison", here are my customs:

The Gibson is Norlin '76 with maple neck, so a bit different to those other customs, closest being the Edwards, while the Orville/Epiphone and Orville bG have full mahogany bodies and fatter necks.

Buying new forget it, the Gibson is not 3X better and will lose way more on the re-sale.

Hell GC is blowing out the R0 anny model for 33% off right now, feel bad for the guys that just lost over a grand in re-sale.

I hated the EC-1000 I tried  It didn't feel or play like an LP, and the one I tried was pretty light and sounded thin. I was just really disappointed

Amen brother. Plus I still haven't found one that will stay in tune without some upgrades :aww:

I never did a back-to-back comparison between an Edwards and Gibson, but I have no complaints about my Edwards LP Custom. Very solid guitar.
