EG 3/4 vs. SL modules.

Man,I should've never opened this thread I've got no more room for modules!!!!they need to get the E2 done and shipped to me!! I need module protection

Trust me man... I know!!!! I'd recommend it though. I really like it. John C was right w/ the SL vs the SL2.

Well I got my SL today. All i can say is HOLY HELL! That module is soooo bad ass. Its quite different than the SL2 because its more juicy, wet, and smooth (oh that sounds soo perverted....well because the module makes me that way!!! ).

I tried a bunch of different tubes in it, chinese 12ax7a's, eh 12ax7eh's, tung sol 12ax7s, ruby 12ax7a's and every combination pretty much of each...with one in V1 and another in V2, and vice versa...blah blah blah.

Well, the best, tightest, yet still smooth and creamy came from the 2 tung sol's in V1 and V2. I LOVE IT. It matches up quite well w/ the COD. I have the COD in channel A dialed in very low (about 8:30) on the gain for a gritty clean tone, channel B on the COD at about 11:30 for a killer "tube screamer in front of a deluxe" type of vibe...(without the tube screamer of course!)...the SL on Channel A with a light crunch channel...and the SL on Channel B with a lot more gain at about 2 o'clock, and it sings!!!

John is right. This module takes pedals VERY VERY well. I threw a voodoo lab sparkle drive, a boss ds-1, a fulltone octafuzz, a mxr evh phase 90...etc in front of it...and it sounded amazing!!!!

Its a definite keeper. I'm in blues rock heaven with the COD and the SL in the mod 50 .

Im running out of crap to sell man! I was trying to sell my Laney on ebay and got nothin so I traded it for a sweet lookin American Strat which much like the gear masochist I guess I am I'm hoping I hate because now everytime I look at a piece of gear I think "this is worth __ modules".

my wife is already resigned to the fact that I'm a guitar gear junkie with a bad case of G.A.S. But I do use my gear, and LOVE playing it, so she cuts me some slack . I'm with you though Jason, we're gear whores!!!!

Man, just downstairs playing the SL again. What an awesome module. Just those classic plexi type tones. And this time I had an MI Audio Blues Pro running into it and it is just fantastic. I can see how John ran 2 SL's with a few pedals. You could really do it all with that set up.
Just love it.

Yes, the SL, SL2 and EG3/4 are all on my list but I didn't realize you could get the SL2 close to the EG3/4 with EQ! Maybe I'll just get the SL2.

That works the other way too; you can get the EG3/4 close to the SL2 as well but the 3/4 has a slight boost in the mids on the B channel that makes it great for solos and I think the A channel has a bit more gain too.

Interesting! Thanks, but now I need to decide on the next module. I have the EG5 but want something a bit different, a touch rounder, more vintage, but still capable of hard and heavy rock. I am leaning toward the EG3/4 or SL2. Sounds like channel B of the EG3/4 can do solos very well, as long as channel A can still do heavy rock.

However, I picked up a modified EQ for leads so now I just kick it into the front of the amp for leads and can now use any channel for keads because the EQ gives me the rwshaping I need.

I'd recommend the SL2 man. I think its a great addition for what you are looking to do.

The SL is more vintage marshall (JTM45, plexi) and doesn't have near as much gain as the SL2. I'd get both the SL and SL2 .

I'd say go for the EG3/4 for your style. That will give you your thick tone.

Eric, why don't you sell Rich your EG3/4?.......unless it's already gone!!!

Any last thoughts before I place an order? I would prefer a brighter channel A for rhythm and darker channel B for lead but I am using an EQ up front to help leads.

The SL2,I find the EG3 side of the 3/4 fatter,thick and smooth

Well, I prefer the EG5 to the MHG. What does that tell you about how I may like the SL2 and/or EG3/4?

I know I want both eventually! I may as well just pick one.
