Yep. The 906 is even better ;). I love that it has a 3-way switch for tone shaping. I'd recommend the 906 over the 609, as I have used both for recordings, and the 906 is better in every way :).

Eric

So I have heard, but I already own a 609, so.... ;)

Damn UPS - they switched their delivery time to my house from 2:30 to 5pm, so now I have trouble sneaking new gear into the house without my wife knowing about it

Awesome clip man! Definitely has me interested in picking up a Grendel now. Gotta love the EG5!

How long was the turn around time for your Dead Room?

It took about a month or so. Definitely worth the wait!!!

Here is try #2 w/ the grendel. Same song, better mic placement, and the addition of the Sennheiser e906. Its a much more refined sound, and the tone I was really looking for.

The prominent mic in the mix is the 57 though. The e906 is mixed in for flavor and punch of the low end.

How loud would you say it is, when you're in the same room as it?

The louder you crank your amp, the louder it is in the room, but at a very high volume w/ my 2/90/2 (VERY cranked) I could still easily talk over it. It is not whisper quiet, but its quiet enough since I'm in my basement that it doesn't bother my wife at all :). The cab removes all of the low end rumble from the room. Some top end sound is still there, but its MUCH MUCH quieter :).

Here's a song I wrote tonight using the aforementioned setup (VHT 2/90/2, EG5 into a Grendel Dead Room mic'ed w/ a SM57 (main mic) with a Sennheiser e906 blended in at lower volumes for mids / punch). You can hear how well the Egnater / Grendel really fix into the mix.

I played bass and used a tweaked / EQ'ed EZDrummer kit for drums.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks,
Eric

I removed / readded the file w/ a newly remixed version w/ rerecorded bass and a mastered version.

Wow, the new clip sounds much less aggressive that the first. Amazing how the mix changes everything. Either way, I completely love the tone. Thick and tight. Fantastic.

Eric, in the new tune, are the semi-dirty arpeggios also the EG5? It sounds like it could be to me. I get similar tones with it when I roll back the volume and go to a split pickup position.

Yeah. I like parts of the full mix, and others I don't. Most of it for me, is the speakers :). I really am impressed w/ how a V30 sounds for the tone I was getting, but it's just not quite it. I have 3-4 other speakers I'm gonna try and re-record. I think it's great tone, and is getting closer to what I'm looking for, but it did lose a bit of aggressiveness. But on the other hand, it sat much better in the mix than the first go around.

You are right on the EG5 on the semi-dirty arpeggio section. Its my HSS main Axe, on the middle single coil w/ the EG5 channel A w/ gain at about 10 o'clock. The volume on the guitar was at 100%, but I did have a phaser / delay going to give it some dimension.

I know exactly what you are talking about! I love the EG5 with single coils or split, especially when I roll it back. I always keep the gain on channel A between 10 and 11 oclock so those tones are always available and I still have monster high gain tones with the bridge humbucker. The versatility just blows my mind!
