Anyone need one of these? Should I consider a speaker swap...since I'm reasonably sure it's the CL80 that's p'ing me off? :-/

Hasn't had chance to break in for sure...maybe she just needs time.

I would say it needs a little braking in.Mine does sound smoother after a few hard hours on it and that's without the "BRA"

You know, I wasn't 100% sure about my 112 the day I brought it home but after a few hours of playing I now can't keep the shit-eating grin off of my face every time I play through it. At first I fealt that the cabinet was tuned for more in the lower frequencies but now it sounds like it's more biased to the upper midbass. It gives you a good punch in the nuts when playing "power chords" on the middle strings. Like any woofer, I'm sure it needs a good break-in before it really starts to show its true personality.

Since it's yours, give it a week or so and see what you think. For me, it's a keeper for sure.

Is it woofy? harsh? too clean as in not breaking up soon enough?

I have an Avatar I'll trade you

I dunno..am used to v30s...stepping to G12H30 was a pretty big step in my other cab....going to CL80s is like a whole different animal.

I think clean might be a word I'd use and am hoping some of the harsh is lack of break in..

PM me on the specs on the Avatar if it's a 1x12 and if you're serious...there's gonna be a cash diff of course :D

I only need 50W power handling.

It is a "cleaner" speaker with the power handling. Takes it longer to break up for sure. I think the V30's get into the crunch sooner.

How much time/volume do you have on it?? Mine was a little rough, but I've been whacking it with volume and it's getting better. You know though, it was a totally different story on the gig Saturday. Sounded fantastic! Maybe give it some more time. At 80 watts, it takes a long time to break in.

Also, I would give some different speakers a try as well. What the heck, worth a shot!!

I am very curious to know how the Eggie 1x12 sounds w/ a G12T75. I use G12T75's in my 4x12's and I LOVE them.

Anyone tried a T75 in the eggie? I'm dying to know!!! Jeff, have you guys tried them in it? I have been wanting to try one out w/ one, as I hated the CL80 in a 2x12 I have. But I am very interested in an Eggie 1x12 empty.

Eric

Don't know about the 75, but it would be interesting to try one out. I absolutely love my cab though....the size, tone, solidness, light weight, easy to handle and of course looks killer with the Mod!!

I'd give it a shot Eric and try some different speakers. If you love the 75's, I can't imagine them sounding too terrible in the cab!!

I know I'll never sell mine

only reason i ask is that Jeff said that only a couple speakers don't fart out in the cab. :)

First time I ever bought a new cab....all my others were nicely broken in. I need to spend some more time playing and with more volume but I hate the tone that's coming out...makes it awkward

Need to decide if it's worth pouring more money in to another or even the effort of tearing down another cab to try one... :aww:

JKD, try putting the cab face down on the floor, turning up the main and just wail on it for a while. This could expedite the breaking-in process. Beats playing for hours with a tone you're not happy with. Also, I've heard of people using this method and just hooking up a stereo to the cab so that they don't have to actually sit and play through it. Sorta "auto break-in".

Just feed a 10-20 cycles test tone through it overnight (at a safe level of course... be carefull with that excursion). It should be more than broken in by morning.

75s actually sound good with eggies. the brightness of that speaker compliments eggs. not the most nuace'y choice, but good overall sound. i tried a mesa 4x12 w/v30s and then a marshall 1960 loaded w/75s and the marshall crushed the mesa. mesa was way too tight and dark.

and then i tried the bogner 4x12...game over. :)

Sorry man, I was asking about T75s with the Eggie 1x12. I have a Marshall 4x12 w/ T75's and I love it! Jeff said that in the Eggie 1x12's only CL80's and a EV speaker sounds good in the Eggie 1x12. i was curious how the T75's sound in the eggie 1x12. He said that V30's sound bad in the Eggie 1x12.

Eric

ooh my bad---

75 is not a good choice in 1x12...those speaks need a big enclosure to load up and resonate in, to add needed low frequency bounce, and so that the harshness spreads out across 4 speakers and sorta smears away. otherwise in 1x12s they are stiff and biting. in both open or closed ported cabs.

v30s are a bit better....sound pretty decent in bogner cubes and open back cabs.

oh and yes, the CL80 does need some serious break in time, but gauging by my knowledge of the difference between the 75 and 80, both of which i have owned and used in 1x12, 2x12,and 4x12 configs, overall i would say the 80 is the superior speaker.

a sweeter top end, maybe a tad rounder along the lines of the EV12L for single note leads for a more fusiony sound, but still celestion in it's ability to grind.

CL80s are ideal in 1x12 or 2x12 configs....beyond that it gets a little too poofy in 4x12, unless you are planning on diming the amp set for metal and going zak wylde EV/4x12 style.

I guess you have to decide what you don't like about the sound. True, A speaker will break in and sound a bit smoother and sweeter, but its not like the sound is going to DRAMATIICALY change, if you know what I mean. If you are currently unhappy, I hate to say it, but that may just go to indiferrence once it smoothes out.

So I guess you have to decide on what you don't like about the sound? to stiff, too bright? that will probally get smoothed over. don't like the overall tone, well, that one probally won't change too much.

Play lots of clean sounds at a decent volume, power chords and what not, that will help break it in.

Think I'm gonna get me a blanket or two and play it on it's face for a while with some more volume....I guess I just expected a little more out of the speaker/tone bra/cab combination...it's rather underwhelming...maybe it's just much better at gig volumes and not so good for home playing? (I've not had this issue with my Randall/ENGL/Mesa cabs tho')

You know you could always try the Warehouse Veteran 30 in there. It's like $45 and if you like it, sell the CL80 which you can probably get close to $80 for it or so.

I love speaker swapping, but understand not everyone does!!

I honestly wouldnt judge it at home volumes. I dont judge anything by how it sounds outside of a band context anymore.
