A consistent complaint with the TT is that it lacks clean headroom. This was Orange's opportunity to address this complaint with a dedicated clean channel. Instead, they give us a fat lead lead channel and a stock TT tone: basically boosted dirt and regular dirt. WTF? I don't have a problem with Orange's dirt, but a single helping is sufficient!

My understanding is that the Fat Channel, although poorly named to lead you into thinking exactly that, is a new dedicated clean channel.

And now I read somewhere else that the opposite is true, so we'll wait and see how that one shakes out. Hell it's photo-shopped vaporware at this point. Probably be a while before it hits the streets.

JWW - Not to worry, I think they're really two different amps. The Rebel 20 has more of a classic vibe, and the 30 is more aggresive. Enjoy your 20!
I do like my 20, and will probably keep it. But I would have waited for a two channel version for basically the same price if I had known it was coming ....

Exactly! I absolutely love my Rebel but my only wish were that it had 2 channels. Then I read this and I thought martha focker! But, I absolutely don't want a combo. So, I took a deep breath and reminded myself that I will add an E2 when they are available and then my Rebel 20 will be a 2 channel fire breathing dragon! Plus I can pick up extra modules for a little variety. However, if Egnater were to release something like a Mod 20 head with the Rebel goodies like tube mix and wattage control AFTER I acquire an E2 then I will really kick myself in the ass.

Ok, I'm confused. I've seen you guys say E2, like a million times. And I searched around, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Now, I know it's a module, right? But, how will it make your Rebel a 2-channel? Does, the module go inside somehow, or do you have to plug it in through the outside. Shed some light on my ignorance!! -D

The E2 is a 2 module version of the M4 preamp chassis. Difference being it will have some sort of switching system within it so you will be able to use it in your effects loop of any amp, and use both the 2-modules in the E2, as well as the tone from the preamp you are running the E2 with.

plus one on a mod20ish kind of thing, basically a rebel head but with space for one module instead of the rebel preamp. It'd be the same small size and portability but would give you two channels, any two channels you want. I would buy one in a heart beat!

Rebel 30 is completely awesome. Its basically exactly what everyone wanted in that one long thread. 30 watts, 2 channels, digital (awesome sounding reverb), 1x12 and a silent recording out. And it sounds great. I already have a RM20 which I will probably just run a BMan with a Suhr Riot distortion pedal at this point, but if I didnt Id be jumping all over this. Its totally sick.

Matt,

Can we venture off topic a bit to discuss the Suhr Riot Distortion? Wasup?

That new???

I would LOVE to! :D I have yet to hear anything John makes sound bad and his new stomp boxes are no exception. There were three new ones there: a distortion box, an overdrive, and a dual pedal mid boost / clean boost. To be totally honest, I didnt pay much attention to the last two but from what I heard they did sound good. But I cant really say from memory how the overdrive compares to say an OCD or a TS-808 or whatever.

The Riot is the distortion box and it was my main focus since Im looking for a "second channel" for my RM20. I first played an OD-100 SE+ to condition my ears to a great high gain sound. Then, I ran the Riot in the OD-100s clean channel (set dead clean). The result was a crushing tone. Not quite as good as the OD's overdrive channel (of course), but it sounded great. Tight, focused, big 3D type tone, lots of gain. It also has 3 voicing switches, one of which will scoop mids, but I liked the switch right up the middle. I think it destroys every distortion box Ive heard in that it almost sounds and responds like a real amp. Oh, and its MXR sized. NICE. My small gig rig will be BMan and the Riot for sure. Suhr wasnt mentioning prices but said it would be "competitive with other boutique pedals". So I guess anywhere from $150 - $500.

The other option would be to use the EG5 and then the new Paul Gilbert EQ pedal from HBE. Basically, it turns your overdrive channel into a clean-ish channel. Paul uses it with his single channel Marshall amp to get his cleans. You set the level to be cut, and also the EQ (so you can bump up the highs you'll lose). Its basically like a pedal that instantly rolls back your guitar volume to an exact place. Pretty neat. Will street for like $120 or $130.

Thanks Man!!!

That is was quite informative. The Suhr Riot is officially on my radar screen.

Yeah I think its the box to beat until the EG5 comes in a stomp box. :D

If/when you see how we had to make the Rebel 30 combo chassis, you will see why it is not likely we will offer it in a head version. The chassis as it is in the combo cannot be made into a head because of it's shape.

I own a rebel 20 and it would be easy to say I am pissed I didn't wait for the 30, but the truth is there is nothing wrong with a company improving their product line, and I am happy for Egnater for making yet another incredible affordable amp. The truth is I am still completely in love with my 20 and the fact that a newer amp for the same price (around) will be coming out soon doesn't take anything away from that. From what I have read and seen, the 30 is supposed to sound very different than the 20, so it might be worth owning both, but the truth is, if they don't come out with a head/cab version, this amp won't be nearly as successful as the rebel 20, even with all the added features.

Well siad and I mostly agree. The 20 and the 30 sound like they are voiced differently enough.

On the future succes of the 30, I think maybe you have to consider a few things. I could see quite a few buyers looking at a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4X10 combo and then playing the Egnater Rebel 30 4X10 combo and saying to themselves ... "hmmmm, looks better, sounds better, has two good channels instead of one good one and one shitty one"

Could be some sales there if you ask me.
