I must be misunderstanding then. What is the idea here? Like a modeler or something?

Len, think Egnater version of teh Mesa Tri-Axis.

I get it. A tube preamp where the parameters are MIDI controllable. Cool!

Correct.

Here are the possibilities.

----------------------------------------------

LEFT SIDE OF PREAMP...
9 preamp tones (using Egnater M4 tones as base)
A/B mode
EQ with 4 choices (Bright On, Bass Boost On, Both On, Both Off)
Choice of 3 different set of preamp tubes

That is 216 different possibilities...
(There are many more possibilities for features on the left side of the preamp based on Egnaters "style" of doing things - Classic/Modern, Contour, Tight/Deep, ISP Decimator, etc, etc...)

----------------------------------------------

RIGHT SIDE OF PREAMP...
Presence (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)
Treble (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)
Mid (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)
Bass (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)
Drive (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)
Volume (Adjustable 0 to 10 in .1 increments)

That is 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) different setting combinations

----------------------------------------------

Total possible setting combinations with things listed above = 216,000,000,000,000 (216 Trillion)

That is 216 Trillion different tonal possibilities with the simple stomp of one midi switch and the hands don't have to even touch the front of the preamp, I think in the guitar world, that is close enough to intinity to call it that. Now what if you built that preamp into an amp head that had tube mixing between 6L6's and EL34's with the same midi controllable .1 adjustability) the possibilities are 21,600,000,000,000,000 (21.6 quadrillion), I think we just reached beyond infinity for the guitar world.

"To infinity and beyond" LOL!!!!

This would be the most powerful amp/preamp in the entire world, it would have absolutely no equal.

Jeez, is that all?

Might be neat to work a tube mix with a foot pedal- like a subtle compressor or even wah kind of effect...

The most powerful amp/preamp in the entire world, it would have absolutely no equal - I really like the sound of that!!! Maybe I should take my out-of-the-box engineering brain to Michigan and help Bruce with the design, but I'm guessing he can handle it without my interference. Maybe I should have applied for a concept patent back in April of 2009 when this popped into my head; but, it's way too late for anyone to get a concept patent on it now, the idea has been out there too long. It would have been nice to see my name on another patent.

I would definitely be one of the first people in line to get a rack unit like this. I'm not even going to mention what I would be willing to pay for something like this, but, let's just say I don't buy cheap stuff and I'm willing to pay for quality and versatility! The only thing I would use my current Axe-Fx Ultra for after this is purchase would be the effects and the speaker IR's for going direct to the board.

Yep, I'm out to change the guitar amplification world and take it to the next level of functionality for the next 60+ years! The time has truly come; the question is, is any amp manufacturer really listening?

Just take an axe II and run it through a tube preamp and into a RT2/50  Done!

I'm a real Axe-Fx fan (I own an Ultra) and I have the power amp covered with something else; I'm really curious what tube preamp you would suggest using and exactly how would you wire it into the signal path so it works for direct XLR outputs to the board?
