In fact, the amp doesn't come with a headshell. The asking price is for a new and fully functional amp chassis with tubes and a footswitch (for boost). It's really a terrific sounding amp with top-notch components (including the board).
Because of the Photobucket crack down on 3rd party hosting, none of your pictures (in either thread) are visible. If you re-posted them, it might help. Just a "heads-up"
1. Diode-bounding circuit for 'noisless' distortion. Think Jose/Friedman/Cameron. $25
2. Gain 'structure' switch. Think Friedman 'S'. $25
3. E-Cap upgrade. Board-mounted IC-brand caps replaced with high-quality F&T axials. $25 (add $20 to replace the multi-section can cap with F&T).
Thanks Jeff. Somebody will eventually get a smoking amp at a great price - unless I start to pull parts of the amp (transformers, etc) for new builds...
I fitted the amp with a prototype "V2 Mod Board" that adds a "structure" switch and a "cali clipper" switch. The amp was modified a bit so that the gain of the new "stock" circuit is closer to that of a JCM800/2204.
The structure switch (leftmost in photo) has three positions:
- up: highest gain
- center: lowest gain (stock)
- down: medium gain
The cali clipper switch (between structure switch and send jack) adds gain without adding noise. The volume drops when engaged, making it possible to get saturated tones at nearly whisper quiet settings.
