I currently have the stock veteran 30s in my cab, and although it doesn't sound bad, I think it could sound better. I'm curious to hear what the rest of you have tried and what you think in terms of what speakers work well with the MOD50 and the Egnater 2X12.

I've got 2 and loaded with the stock Eggie elite 80 and g12t75 and they fucking rock!!!!!

Do you have one of each speaker in each cab? I was curious if anyone did this and if they played well together.

I've heard the V30 and BL80 paired up sound like crap because they are out of phase.

I have v30s and think it sounds awesome. But alot of people seem to not like v30s so what do I know. :D

They're only out of phase if they're wired out of phase.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I prefer four BL80's vs. any kind of combination with BL80's

eh hem, paging Dr. Aeroic...

Eric has probably swapped in and out 1,472,496 combinations of speakers in the last week alone.

HAHAHAHAAH funny man :). Luckily for you I haven't, since I've been travelling for work ;).

But on a more serious note...I have tried 3 combinations in my Eggie cab... 2-Elite 80s..(sounds really good)....1-Elite 80 and 1 G12T75 (sounds amazing!!!) and 2-G12K-100s (sounds amazing!!!)

The G12T75 / CL80 combo is a killer combo in that cab. The G12T75 and CL80 mix rather well. Adding the G12T75 beefs up the tone and girth a bit, and makes the low end a bit punchier. The frequencies that the CL80 is lacking is filled by the G12T75, and vice versa. I have this combo in my 4x12 Eggie cab, and it is amazing!!! I have the 2-K100s in my Eggie 2x12, and man is it a huge sounding cab. The K100s are a bit louder speaker than either the G12T75 and CL80, which brings up the volume of the 2x12 to close to my 4x12. I don't think I'd want 4 K100s in a 4x12, because they have a bit more low end than most speakers, but in a 2x12, it's a perfect combo. Has a very tight, punchy, deep low end. Has a similar mid-range to the G12T75 / CL80 combo, and has a warm, smooth, yet sparkly top end.

For me, the 2x12 K100 cab smoked the Eggie 4x12 w/ Vintage 30s. The 2x12 filled the room much more than the 4x12 w/ V30s did. The 4x12's w/ G12T75 and CL80 X pattern fills the room similarly to the K100 loaded 2x12.

I'm very happy with both Eggie 2x12 and 4x12. The G12T75 / CL80 combo is a bit more "vintage" sounding and has a cool sag to it. The K100s are really tight and punchy, and really growly in the lower and upper mids. But, they clean up really well, and all the modules sound great through both sets!

Then there's the Weber Blue Dog....but that's for a different thread!! You can't go wrong with either the G12T75 / CL80 combo, the K100s, or the Weber Blue Dogs. Those 3 combos have cured my speaker gas...I love them all for different reasons!

Combination that stopped me from searching any further is ...

Warehouse Veteran 30 and Eminence GB12.

One is a copy of the Celestion Vintage 30 and the other is a copy of a Celestion Green Back. It sounds incredible. But that's all pointless because you really need to give us an idea of what your are going for. Basically most quality speakers sound incredible with Egnater amps. What do want to do?

Thanks for the responses. A lot of great information here.

I'm in a cover band that does a lot of classic/modern rock music. Therefore, I need a set up that will cover a lot of ground. I want my cab to be able to pull of a nice vintage tone while still being able to do the modern rock stuff well also. I'm not really into metal or anything like that, so I don't need anything too articulate or super tight. From what I'm reading, either the BL80s or a BL80 and a G12T-75 sound like the way to go.

Great, that gives us something to shoot for. In that case I personally would go with one of the following speakers. These are all essentially variations of the same speaker with minor differences. The Warehouse BL80, Celestion Classic Lead 80, G1280 (old), Mesa Boogie Black Shadow 90. For cover band use I found the Mesa to be the best semi nuetral pallette for that kind of thing. I might mix that with another speaker, but intitially I would get two and then experiment with swapping one out as an alternative to find that extra classic vibe. Suggestions for alteratives V30 style or Green Back style in my book. A little speaker break up and CUT does not hurt in that case. The 80 can be a little thick on thier own.

From that description man...I'd get a GC Egnater 2x12, and change one of the speakers for a G12T75. I love my Eggie GC TM4x12 w/ 2 Elite 80s and 2 G12T75s. I also had that combination in my Eggie GC TM212 also, but changed it out to try the K100s in it. I think you'll be in good shape with the G1275 / Elite 80 (or CL80) combo!!! Both Jason (jngman69) and I are happy with combo for sure!

  I've been jammin all day on channel A :D

Just to further muddy the waters, I really like the Celestion Heritage Greenbacks. Compared side by side with a V30 loaded 4x12, the Heritage Greenies were much more pleasant sounding, with a fat woody low mid think going on. They felt better to play and didnt fatigue your ears.

Depends of course on what you play. For me (blues and rock, lots of time spent in SL(2) and VX) it's an EVM-12L for girth, bottom, and transparent repro of the MOD50 plus whatever you like for "character"... I'm going to throw in a CL80 next. Usually it's a british flavored Eminence, Celestion, etc... but the EV is always in my rig. There's a reason everyone from Joe Bonomassa to Zakk Wylde uses them.

One thing: try to pair speakers that have a similar efficiency rating so they balance and one doesn't overpower the other.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with and why!

Anyone tried the Emi Governor and Private jacks with there EGG gear .

I tried a few cabs at a local store that had those loaded and man it was killer with the Mark 4 head ,Recto , Dsl , Just warm and punch as hell.

The Governer seemed smoother than the V30 ,and the Private jack had that warm low mid growl.

I cant explain maybe it was the custom cabs they were loaded in but they just seemed to breathe better

I have 2 412s loaded with them in X patterns and I like it and yes they seem to breathe better

JMG .which do you like better if you only had a 212.

the Gov or the Jack?

to my ears the Gov is a little brighter ,with bite not harsh or shill .
the Jack was more dark with a growl . I did think they were pretty similar.

My concern would be that both are Mid heavy and together they might become a little too harsh ,

The govs seem alittle tighter less vintagey and I had built a 212 years ago and the govs init were killer.I really like both and when combined seem to be ,well sweet.I had them seperated for a while and they seemed to lack something that both produce.I've been meaning to drop them in a Eggie 212 and see whatt they can do.Man there are a lot of screws on the TM 212
