I just got back from the Egnater Amp Class. The whole weekend was awesome.
Besides building my own amp, I saw some great live music at the local club, Memphis Smoke.
On day one, the six of us each assembled, soldered, and checked out a modified high gain JTM 45 amplifier.
The amp features Clean channel, High gain channel, and Low gain channel, master gain preamp structure, and a totally usable effects send/return.
The tone blows me away. I can get AC/DC bite to heavily saturated sonorities AND the high and low gain inputs are footswitchable!
Bruce and his wife Terri (or Kerri based on the penmanship on her name-tag) were terrific hosts. They provided food, kept an upbeat atmosphere going at all times, and got us out of there with a great amp and a really good understanding of the amp theory and tone structure theory. I don't know how Bruce was able to checkout and troubleshoot us all like that without going nuts. He was calm the whole time.
I promise to make clips of this thing.

On a side note, one of the six guys in the class was Dick Coulson of Radio City legacy. He is a super guy. He was working the mixer at Memphis Smoke Saturday night and said to tell the gatekeeper at the front door that "My name is Ed, I'm from LA, and I know the sound guy." I ended up getting the best seat in the house watching Jim McCarty and his blues band. Absolute best way to see Detroit.
