I just got back from the Egnater Amp Class. The whole weekend was awesome.
Besides building my own amp, I saw some great live music at the local club, Memphis Smoke.

On day one, the six of us each assembled, soldered, and checked out a modified high gain JTM 45 amplifier.

The amp features Clean channel, High gain channel, and Low gain channel, master gain preamp structure, and a totally usable effects send/return.

The tone blows me away. I can get AC/DC bite to heavily saturated sonorities AND the high and low gain inputs are footswitchable!

Bruce and his wife Terri (or Kerri based on the penmanship on her name-tag) were terrific hosts. They provided food, kept an upbeat atmosphere going at all times, and got us out of there with a great amp and a really good understanding of the amp theory and tone structure theory. I don't know how Bruce was able to checkout and troubleshoot us all like that without going nuts. He was calm the whole time.

I promise to make clips of this thing.

  Here are some Pics http://www.skideezie.com/egnater/

On a side note, one of the six guys in the class was Dick Coulson of Radio City legacy. He is a super guy. He was working the mixer at Memphis Smoke Saturday night and said to tell the gatekeeper at the front door that "My name is Ed, I'm from LA, and I know the sound guy." I ended up getting the best seat in the house watching Jim McCarty and his blues band. Absolute best way to see Detroit.

  They rearranged the place :D

Maybe, I can go back and build and IE4

Im thinking sometime next year after the smoke clears from NAMM. I'll probably off the powerball to fund the cost! I figure i'll Lose an amp to gain one, plus we will gain some killer knowledge. i just hope that this will clear up some mental blocks that I have with building this stuff! With that said, I don't want to leave there only knowing how to build that one amp. i hope it lays down a good foundation for me to move onto other builds(which I think it will) !!

I still went to go back.

Djams, tell me when the wife will let you go. I'll sign up for the same one.

Here I am with Bruce and his hammer/paperplate combo.

Cool man, glad to hear you had a good time. Yeah, those amps are killer. I'm still tweaking mine, it's real fun to change things and hear how it affects the sound.

Only if you wear the wig man :D

Sure thing, a freaking Rig-Talk class would freaking rule!

The soldering iron + wig = probably a fire.

Tweed, thanks for the comment. The class was totally fun.
Are you coming to NAMM this year?
We all had a beer breakfast at some pub in Fullerton at last year's NAMM - I almost remember the details.
(I'm Ed, the old guy with gray hair).

When did you build your amp?
I am curious if changing the caps and resistors has a noticeable effect or just subtle.
I've been a little bit timid on diving in with my soldering iron - hate to ruin the nice tethering Bruce did to the amp.
