Unfortunately, you won't find much love for them here. Personally, I think they are a great tool for the money. Not up to par with an Axe II, but far better than the POD products I've heard and played. I have two; one in my recording desk and the other in my live rig. My band plays 2-3 shows a month and I've used it for every gig for the last year. Hasn't let me down yet...

IMHO, YMMV, My .02, etc., etc.

I love the Eleven Rack. It was really the rack part that killed it for me. It started to become clear that they weren't going to develop the promised matching foot controller for it, or continue to update it at all, so I sold it. If they put that exact same software into a footcontroller format, or if it showed some life again somehow, I would pick one up again immediately.

In fairness, I haven't tried the AxeII or the Kemper. The world might have passed the 11R back, by now.

I did have an Axe Standard and preferred the 11R in almost every aspect.

I'm tempted to pick up another one just because they're going for so cheap.

i've had two (so far!). loved them for the money, was not in love with the effects though. beat out the axe fx in terms of usability on the spot - pick an amp, fiddle with the eq, and go. the axe as a whole was light years beyond it though. i have moved on to a kemper since then.

not sure exactly what happened, but 11R prices are plummeting on the boards lately. have seen them sell as low as $250! you could also look into the eleven plugin if you're just staying at home and close to a computer - not exactly the same but pretty close. YMMV.

Sam Ash in NYC has a display unit on close out/manager special for $299. It was already on close out last week for $699 but its the last one in the chain and I think they just want it out of here.

See, I really don't get this. I kind of understand the footswitch thing but as far as more updates and whatnot...if it sounds good why unload it. It'll work with another midi pedal right? And if the tones are there, why not stick with it until it no longer suits your needs?

There are a lot of presets on board, some of which are good - some of which are overly-affected. But, there's a wealth of good presets available on multiple websites. Avid released an update package about a year ago and they still promote it, so I don't see them leaving the unit high and dry.

I use a Ground Control Pro with mine and it works flawlessly while also controlling a GCX in my rack...

Update wasn't really the right word to use. Software-wise I could have been happy if they never updated that unit again. IMO it was just about perfect as-is. BUT...I would like to see some signs of life in the sense that if I'm going to stick with a company's product I'd like to know that there will always be support and hopefully new products in the future etc. I was really starting to lose that feeling. Tonally I had no issues whatsoever and that's why I would consider picking up a cheap used unit just to have. Updates are great at all...it's a great way to throw users a bone now and then, IMO, with new models. But I don't find it necessary. Especially since with that unit that had already modelled nearly all of the gear on my personal bucket list.

The footswitch thing was the big one for me. Yeah, a GCP would work just fine. External expression pedals, etc. I had one of the cheapo POS Behringers with it. But for me part of the draw of a modelling unit is the streamlining aspect. There's no technical reason they couldn't put the whole deal into an HD500 sized package. Or even a footcontroller that connected and was phantom-powered with one cable, a la Fractal or Digitech GSP1101. It starts to lose its luster if you have to end up wiring up just as much stuff as you'd have to with a regular rig. A good example of the kind of thinking I'm talking about is Kemper leaving the slot in the back of the unit for a future power amp option.

A regular rack unit that you have to outfit with all kinds of other stuff in order to complete the rig just became less and less attractive to me. I'd consider an HD500 if I thought it would be in the same league tonally but I'm not getting that vibe from the reviews.

Had the chance to play with an Eleven Rack the last few days. I'm really liking it. Other than my weekly Friday and Saturday night acoustic gig at the Gate 2 Garage, I don't see me playing in a full band with amps (I'll still keep my Blackstar) anymore, but for sitting around the house and jamming/practicing, it is not too bad.

I really like the patch - h1: Metal Spread. makes me want to play for hours. I like the recto patches too. I know with some tweaking or some downloads it can sound better, but right now I just might buy it.

I think I'll record a few tracks with my Les Paul so I can have a reference point after I swap out the pickups with some Motor City Black Belts.

Anybody still using one of these? Any pointers?

I forgot to mention my pointers. I like to cut everything out and start a new tone with just an amp and cab. There's a ton of tonal shaping you can do by choosing the cab and mic. Then move on to fx if desired.

Turn the noise gate off unless you need it for uber gain.

Experiment with the compressor and reverb. There's a lot going on there despite the relatively few controls and those two things can really put the icing on a good tone.

Get the expansion pack if you don't already have it. The amps in there are killer.

$299 blowout is a crazy good price- especially when you're getting PT with it
Things I love on it:
Tape delay
Bogner
Interface
There's a myriad of applications for this unit from stage to studio..best di tone in the world? No, but it's useful and there's many things to love about it

Yeah someone should buy it so I don't have to look at it anymore. :) I'm sure they'll ship it too, at least within the US.

Hell, I have two and for that price, I'm tempted

I could use it in a smaller rack rig with just a SS amp and no outboard effects.

I had one for a year. If you can get one for a good price with an expansion pack then it should be great! It's a nice unit.
I just hated the fact that Avid basically dropped most of their support for it. It was all the whoopla at the one Namm show and then a year later......nothing. I guess they didn't sell enough of them.

Help explain this to me. Avid hasn't stopped selling new units, they created an expansion pack that increases the number of mdels and effects, they provide warranty support and, to my knowledge, have made no statements that they weren't keeping the product in their line-up. I'm not sure how Avid's support for the Eleven Rack differs form the way Line 6 supports the POD HD series units, or Fractal's support for the AxeFX. Am I missing something here?

Well that wasn't my post but I can give you one example - the developers put up an Ideascale (sp?) poll and told users to submit their ideas for enhancements and improvements, bug fixes, etc. The list got quite long and active and a good number of the best ideas made it into the expansion pack. Since then it's basically died. People add ideas from time to time, but there hasn't been any visible movement at all since the expansion pack because all the input and feedback from the developers just stopped. They had promised a matching foot controller at one point - it hasn't been mentioned in probably a couple of years now. That's the kind of stuff I think about when I say they've kinda dropped the ball. It's a downer for me because IMO the box was very, very close to perfection. A matching foot controller and perhaps just a couple of nice added features and it would have been a total grand slam. But instead it looks like they are letting it die on the vine. Contrast that with Fractal and Kemper who are still developing new ideas and features. Not necessarily just new models, but software improvements and bug fixes too.

I had one about a year or so ago with the expansion pack...I really liked it...great for jamming at home, particularly Marshall tones...I didn't really use the factory presets, just rolled my own...Here is some shitty playing by me with the 11R
