Man, I've been checking out emperor cabs for quite some time now. I got a quote on a 4 x 12 at $750 loaded.

i used an emperor 6x12 at a show in cincinnati last year cuz i was forced to use someone else's backline. and using it with my herbert i hated the sound of it. it sounded muddy and unfocused. i was really let down...cuz i thought the emperors looked great and obviously some amazing bands use em...but it was killing me on stage how bad they sounded compared to my diezels. even the guys in my band were complaining about not being able to hear my guitar like they normally could. i was bummed.

maybe it was just that specific cab had crap speakers in it? i also found it annoying that i couldnt connect both 6x12's to my herbert and run them both 6x12...if you wanted to run two you had to only use the bottom 4x12 of the cab. as they are built with inputs for the top 2x12 portion and the bottom 4x12 portion. you cant run the whole cab with one speaker cable, you have to have two. again maybe thats how this cab was ordered by the guy i used it from, but either way i was let down.

however i did try a blackstar cab at a festival in scotland the other day with my herbert and it sounded amazing!

I guess you guys are talking about live/room sound in this comparison? I wonder how much of these superb qualities of both cabinets are really present when they are directly (and well) miced?

i'm miked at every show i play and so far everything sounds great. especially my splawn 4x12s. they sound excellent miked up in live situations and recording.

well, the solution to that is just running 2 amps ;)

yeah, sounds like those emperor 6x12s were different than mine. what band was this? converge perhaps? it may be difficult to judge based on a one time experience at one show.

you can run mine in mono or stereo. mono only takes one cable. however, 2 speakers are being pushed harder than the other 4, mostly because of ohm's law of impeadance.

if you order an emperor cab, its built to your exact specs. this includes speakers, finish, dimensions, wiring, inputs, ports, etc... also, even though i've run my vh4 through the 6x12 with great results, i'm currently using it for my sunn model T, which is usually pushing a bass signal serving as a supplement to the tone from my vh4 rig. incidentally, i'd love to check out a blackstar...

honestly, and no offense, but your guitar sound (and overall band's sound) doesn't seem to be the right compliment for emperor cabs. i'm after a totally different sound than yours. i like actual tone, with good dynamics and clarity. your sound has a very flat response and strikes me as generic. all of cancer bats' songs seem to reside around the same tempo. the kids eat that shit up because they can play along in guitar hero to something that reminds them of slipknot... of course, this is just my meaningless opinion. congrats on your success and popularity, but its obvious that we don't run in the same musical circles (i know i'm gonna catch some flak for this).
